Despite running against the Bellingham Championship round, Rainier still drew large numbers t as in the case of the Open Sportsman class. Mike Lester escaped with a win ahead of class front-runners Tony Fox and Dan Kimbel in the Open A main while the B main, which also had 10 contestants, went to Gary Bramer. Kimbel, riding a Honda, came back again in the 30+ Open class to try to salvage at least one win but again fell short, this time trailing Jeff Holford all the way to the finish. Greg Holford, Kenny McCann and Mike Colyar filled out the top five at the finish. • Another great race took place in tbe 80cc A main, which saw Honda rider Dan Weipert on the pole. Weipert and Scott Houseman were heat-race winners, but it was Nathan Wharton who pulled off the upset in the main, breezing to a wire-to-wire win while a five-~ay battle for second between Brad Smith, Sam Rivers, Sean Light, Nicky McBride and Houseman went Smith's' way after the Honda rider rode his bestever race to finish ahead of Weipert for second. GeoIge Prindiville, who rides a Bulta-coframed, Honda~powered machine, won the highly-eompetitive 250cc A Main, beating K~wasaki rider Pete Medcalf and James Kiser. Results EX/PRO-AM: l.
