Caldwell also earned third in 80cc D, . In the 125cc D class, Heath Landis had a great second mota with eventual winner Jason Libera. Although Libera holeshot the start, landis was able to force an opening when Libera went wide in a comer. Landis took lead for two of the five laps. but the heat took its toll on the new leader and he was not able to mount a charge to reclaim the front position after Libera had grabbed it back. FOREST CITY, NC, JULY 30 A record entry of 217 riders from five states ~ braved stilling summer heat at Suzuki Motorsports of Charlotte Day. the third race ever for Cathey's Creek MX. Fittingly, two Suzuki pilots were tops for the day with double-class wins. Suzuki of Gastonia's Eric Barnes took the Senior Mini and Schoolboy classes, and Suzuki of Winston-Salem-backed Jacob Dombrosky owned both 125 and 250cc Bclasses. Barnes handled the Senior Mini field with ease, taking double-moto wins over local rider Nicholas Bums. Eric and his younger brother. Casey, double-teamed Bums in the first moto to hold Bums to third. But while Eric blazed the second-moto trail out front, B\UTlS and Casey battled for the runner-up spot. Bums finally edged out Casey, dropping him to third for the day. Perhaps lulled by his easy win in Senior Mini, Barnes looked somewhat unprepared for the hard-charging of Joshua Summey in Super Mini and Schoolboy. In the first moto, Barnes headed the field into turn one. Eric is not known for his great starts, prompting an exclamation from his mom, Becky, "How'd he do IlIat?" However he did it, Barnes led every lap for a satisfying moto win. The second round of Schoolboy was not so easy for Barnes. Summey claimed the holeshot and remained there, refusing to be dislodged in spite of the determined efforts of Barnes and Zach Yonce. Despite his second-mota victory, S!Jmmey was left second overaH on 4-1 scores behind Barnes' 1-3 scores. Yonce, Aaron Benfield of Charlotte, and Suzuki-mounted Matthew Davis of Charlotte rounded out the top five. r-----------------------------------------------, ,..
