JUNE 24 Nine-year-old Jason Medina was the big winner of the new Toyota truck during the Starwe t Night Series Finale. After a mediocre evening a t the races where Medina finished third in the 60cc 9-11 and fourth in the 80cc 0-11, things went from fair to excellent just after the eighth race of the evening. "I remember looking at Shane Fox," said Jason's dad, Joe. "They said the winner was from Apple Valley and only we and Shane were here from that city. Both men were mounted on Yamaha XS650s as they dominated the race from start to finish. Salley, the former dirt track star. appeared to have a slight advantage on the long fron.t straightaway with Oldakowski throwing sparks in the back section to stay close. Oldakowski made his pass in the infield and was able to hold off Salley before the finish line for the vktory, with Keith Powell coming in third on his YamahaRD350. Gary Smith beat Harold Page by the length of his front wheel in Vintage One action during the first race of the day. Page was later penalized for passing traffic under a yellow flag and was dropped to fourth place, moving Rjxon Breckon, the defending National Champion. into second with Daniel Kane rising to third. All tile top finishers were Honda CB35()..mountecl. Page came back in the last race of the day to win the Vintage Two class over Ted Hubbard and Breckon. Gary Stumm recorded his third victory for the season in the Vintage Four class as he led from start to finish over Richard Gruhn and Mark- Morrow.
