That move gave Wysocki enough of a cushion to
hold off Salter through the final three turns and
kee p third place .

Scott Sheak pi lot ed his OC5-backed Suzuki
to two class wins, toppin g both th e 125 and
2S0cc Pro ra nks while en te rtai ni ng onlookers
with an awesome ai r show th at wo u ld have
made Guy Coo per envious. Sheak topped Oscar
Lanza and Marlo Painter in the 125ee class, an d
E.J. Wrig h t and An thony Poco robba in the 250
motos.

Farmer harvests Aztec MX win

Jules Farmer re turned to competition at the
Aztec Mo tocross season opene r with a strong
sho wing in the 250cc Pro class .
At t he start of t he fi rst m ota , Yamahamounted Gary Salt er gr abbed the holesh ot while
Bob Kline go t tan gled in the ru bberband. Salter
tried to open up a lead with Farmer in seco nd
and Randy Wysocki in third . As the lead duo
head ed fo r t he whoops, Fa rmer attem p ted a
pa ss only to be blocked by Salte r. Fanner wo uld
get by for the moto win a sho rt time tater.
After his mistake at the start, Kline was clos- .
ing the distance between himself and th e pack.
On lap six he moved into thi rd wh en he pr op ell ed h is '93 C R250 p a st th e Ka wasaki o f
Wysocki and began to hunt do wn Salter . When
th e checkers flew, it was Farmer followed by
Salte r, Kline and Wysocki .
To the wonder of those watching. Kline circled the tra ck for two more laps after the check ered flag was thrown. He lat er explained that in
his concentration to catch Salter he passed righ t
by the checkered flag wi thou t even seeing it.
Th e ho les hot in th e seco nd m oto went to
Fa rmer, as he took the lead and never loo ked
back. Kline, off to a much better start was sec-

Bowman proved to be th e true iro nman competitors of the day by racing in the Super Mini
and 125cc C classes back-eo-back, each racing a
YZSO in both classes an d showing everyone how
tough they really are.
In the Super Mini class , Kelly rode his Sunoco Race Fuels /WM R/Cycles of Palm Beachbacked YZSO to the holeshot in mota one with
Ashley Mitchell in seco nd . Bowman immediately moved into second pla ce after a poor start
and then started chasing Kelly dow n . Co mi ng
out of the back section of the track Kelly visibly
slowed, raised his righ t hand and allowed Bowman by . HI was savi ng energy for the rest of my
motos, and the second ones cou nt more, Kelly
said.
As Bowman and Kelly maintain ed first and
second, the battle began for third. Mit chell wa s
bein g challenged fo r third by Darren Fortin.
Mitchell rod e m ore agg ressively tha n Fortin,
a n d th at wou ld b e M it ch ell' s dow nfa ll. As
Forti n maintained his pa ce, Mitchell was riding
hard an d jum ping ev ery double, triple and any
ot he r obstacle he co u ld clear. Eventually, the
rear hub on his YZSO gave o ut, turning his rear
wheel in to garbage an d handing thi rd over to
Fortin.
Th e secon d Super Mini moto began with
Kelly an d Fortin pu lling the top two positions
and Bow man recovering from anothe r bad sta rt .
Bowman moved into th ird on a lon g tabl etop
with a dropaway at the end . Less than a half lap
later , Bowman passed Fortin for seco nd pla ce.
Bowman was not able to catch Kelly in time, and
the mota en de d with Kelly first and first ove rall,
Bowma n seco nd and Fortin th ird .
As soo n as the checkered flag waved in each
Super Mini mota , Kelly and Bowm an immediately went back to the starting line and raced

Bollinger cleans up at Bear
Garden Vintage Trial

Stan Bolling er overcame th e firs t-loop jitters to
fini sh as th e Premier A cla ss champion at th e
sixth ru nning of the Bear Garden Vintage Trial
in Union Bridge.
Dick Oliver took the lead on the first loop in
Premier A class wi th a single dab. Bollinger faltered on his Gree ves Ang lian and earned three
marks to place second .
The gap narrowed on the seco nd loop , with
Oliver taking another dab and Bollinger rid ing
clea n. Both rid ers clean ed the third loop, and
Bollin ger earned an oth er clean score on the final
loop, while O liver su ffered the consequences of
rid ing a thumper in section nine. Within inches
of the end car ds, Oliver's 250cc Du cati cough ed
an d died . The resulti ng five marks put Oliver in
second place fo r th e day w hile Bollinger took
the w in.
