A less-than-sharp Abb ott took a tumble on the first of three laps, and trailed Bryan Bruning and Kozlik into the pits. Abbott was feeling the effects of a sligh t sho uld er separation suffered a da y ea rlier. The injury, in add ition to the bobb le, as well as the high-speed sections and the d ifference in engine s ize, resulted in a 12·second deficit for Abbo tt at the finish.
