Meanwhile, McElroy pressured Manley for several laps and eventually moved by in the whoop section. As the w hite flag came o ut. McElroy closed in on Carsten try ing to make a late-race pass, but time ra n out. Carsten claimed th e mo ta wi n over McElroy, Manley, Wallin and Andre Pene. Manley sho t to the front of the field to start the seco nd 125cc mota with Pene, Steve Here man, Katin an d Cars ten giving chase . McElroy star ted aro und seven th but quickly displaced Carsten and Katlin on the firs t circu it. As the pack hit the front straig htaway McElroy hugged the insid e line and pa ssed Herman fo r th ird . Herman then fell as Curry and Carsten slid by to break into the top five . McElr oy closed in on Pene and forced his way by in a come r. Manley con tin ued to lead, but McElroy was slowly reeling him in. Late in the race Manley mad e a rare mistake, ana McElroy was able to p u t h is WKR /Dun lop /Rent ha l/FMF / Axo / Cycle Sports Cente r-backed Yamaha in the point posilion. McElroy cashed in on the $200 mot o an d overall win wit h Manley, Pene, Cu rry and Carsten trailing behind . Local ace Kenny Yoho lead the start of the first 250 Pro mot o with Kurt McMillen , Curry, Mike Katin and Cars ten following. Cu rry qu ickly passed McMillen on the s te p- up jump and applied pressure to the lead er Yoho . Cars ten was on th e move and blew by Katin and MeMillen in the wh oops to take th e th ir d spo t. Carsten then set his sights on Curry and dived un d ern eath him in a tum to get in the second position . Karin then cras hed lett ing Pen e and McEl roy mo tor b y. Carsten al so led the final 2SOcc moto from start to finish . McElroy cam e back from a second- tu m crash to move all the way to second . Curry, Kalin and Pene rounded out the top five. Motocross Action /July 94 hotline 8J7/626-7297 Plessinger cashes in at Lynnville Mid-South HS By Paul Michels LYNNVILlE, IN,)AN. 22 Team KTM's Scott Plessinger took home th e lion 's share of the $1000 AA prize money on a cold breezy day of racing during round five of the Mid-Sou th Winter Hare Scramble Series at Lynn ville City Park in Southwest Indiana. In his first race in two months, Plessinger left little doubt that he wa s up to speed . A week before Christmas he had screws removed from the ank le that he broke a yea r ago whi le at a Mid-South round in Georgia. But there we re apparently no lingering effects from the surgery, as Plessinge r charged through the pack for victory. Marty Kelhmier led the AA riders off th e start and conlinued to lead at the end of the first of five slick, frozen lap s. Kelhmier conlinued to lead the freigh t train of Pro riders thro ugh the secon d lap until an un fortu nate mishap about a mi le fro m th e sta rl /finish left him dead -last.
