Bone splits at Bremen MX
By Gary Crid e r
Shae Bentley (121) bagged the win In the
Senior Mini division and a runner-up
finish In the 125cc Youth class at the
Bremen Motocross.
Thirteen 12Sec Beginners left the first-mote
gate. with Ronnie Cannon and Todd Nibarger
leading the way to the first turn. Nibarger edged
ahead just enough to lead the pack over the first
step-up step-down jump, but Merkey took over
the lead with a vengeance by the first tabletop
and led the race to the finish. Nibarger kept his
second-place spo t at the final flag, followed by
Stan Lewis, Randy Wells and Ronn ie Cannon.
David Murray had his share of problems by
the end of the first moto, when he crashed in the
whoops near the end of the first lap, then got up
and remounted only to fall again in the flat track
sweepe r on th e ne xt lap . Murray took three
spills by the end of the race but ftn ished in good
sportsman-like spi rits.
Murray got out front at the start of moto two
and made up for his first-moto ride by racing
flawlessly the entire second moto all the way to
the checkered flag. Merkey challenged Murray
at the start, but Murray was too focused to allow
Merk ey a pa ss 'lind kept him in second all the
way to the finish . Ronnie Cannon raced in third,
followed by Niba rger and Wells. Merkey's 1-2

By Darryl Smith
ERA, TX,OCT.16
Sam Baker's smooth style earned him the Overall Expert win at round 15 of the Tucker Rocky
Texas Cross Country Series at the Rocky Ridg e
Cycle Ranch.
Starting five minutes behind the lead Open
Expert class, Bake r, riding in the 38+ Expert
class, began his cha rge with a holeshot. On lap
on e, Baker sli p ped by all the 125 and 200cc
Experts that had started two and three minutes
ahead of him. Halfway through lap two , Baker
passed the 30+ Expert class leader Darry l Smith.
At the finish only three riders were ahead of
Baker , the to p two riders from the 250cc class
and the Open class winner.
O n t he score s h e e ts Da vid Ga rner wa s
declared the overall winner in the 250cc ranks.
Smith knew that Baker was on the gas, and old
gu ys' times are rarely looked at for the overall.
Smith had scorekeepers double-check the o veraU when he noticed Gamer and Baker were on
the same minute with the time ad justed. After a
closer look, Baker got the ove rall win by 17 seconds over Ga mer.
Clay Hoenshell took the early lead in the Pro
class. Dean Lane got a mid pac k start but quickly
ca u gh t Hoenshell. Lane foll owe d Hoens h ell
through a bad line and Hoe nsh ell crashed. Lane
also went down trying to ge t past him. The rest
o f the Pros went by as the y picked themselves
up off the ground. Curtis Kirchme ier took over
and wa s able to lead the Pro class for two laps.
Kirchmeier surr endered the lead to Lane whe n
he stopped for fresh goggles startin g lap three .
Lane rode on unchallenged in the final two laps
for the win. Hoenshell managed to pa ss Kirchmeier a few miles before the finish line to take
the runner-up spot.

jack Beckha m wi ns a lot of races at Lakeside
Motosport Raceway, but sinc e he's usually the
only expert rider in the field he chooses not to be

When Lakeside returned to "daytime racing "
in October, thin gs were expected to be different,
as no fewer than six expert riders showed up to
ch allenge Beckh am, including fou r in th e 25+
Expe rt class, but Beckham wa s unfazed.
Da r ry l Wills ta lked h is fr ie n d Hunter
Carothe rs in to coming out from Au stin to join
the pack trying to dethrone Beckham. That was
a lmos t a m istake, as Carothers tapped Wills
fro m b ehind and stalled him in the first
125/25Occ Expert moto . Wills recovered to fmish
fourth, whil e Carothers took second. While they
were banging han d leba rs, Beckham won the
moto.

F &. S Suzuki /Kawasaki-backed Ch uck Reed
took three out of four Pro class motos in the final
round of th e 1994 Budweiser Summer Super·
cross Series at Action Sports Supercross Park.
Reed had to chase F &. S teammate jeromy
Buehl in the first 125 a nd 250cc motos, but his
consistent riding gave him the edge in moto two
in both classes.
In Amateur Racing, Tyle r Grubb took two
wi ns in the Mini cla ss to sew up the se ason
championship on h is L.E.M. mach in e. Scott
McMillin used Kaw asaki power to sweep the
Schoolboy and 12Sec B classmotos on his way to
two series championships.
F &. S/Pro Circuit /Sinisal o-ba cked jeromy
Buehl dominated the first 12Sec Pro moto. Reed
cou ldn 't match Buehl's pace but he easily outran
third-placed Mike Blair, Dick Hoy and Cr aig
Bil1ingsley.
In the second 125cc Pro moto Buehl again looK
control at the start but crashed early in the moto;
turning the lead over to Reed . Reed rode smooth'
Iy out front as Buehl remounted and set out after
the leaders . Buehl pushed harde r every lap, as he
cut into ~!'ed 's lead. With a lap and a half to go;
Buehl went into the infield sweeper faster than
ever and when he hit the brakes he lost the front
end , crashing hard . Reed took the win and Buehl
salvaged second . 81air, Hoy and Billingsley went
3-4-5again to round out the top flve.
In the first 250cc Pro moto, Mike Morgan
and Rob Sturgell shared the holesh ot ahead of
Bue h l, Reed and Mike Hogan. Before the first
lap was half over Morga n made a mistake, dIpppin g five spots and Buehl took over second.
