Mathews came off the line in th ird aboard the MV Agust a 500 that was hop ed would carry h im to the title. Huneycutt came cha rging bad< on the white-flag lap , as he drove deep into the csses on the brakes, retaking the second spo t. Roper tried his best to regain the positi on , coming up less than a bike length sho rt at the checkerod flag. Grew e kept his winning pace, se t· ting sub-eigh t-minute lap times. New third-plac e runner Mason got by Witmer on the GP section of the track in an off,a m· ber, gras sy comer, grabb ing the insid e line away from Witmer.
