(. .w ~ Woodruff waxes Devils Ridge Motocross By Jay and Sharon Hauser SANroRD, NC, OCT. 9 Caven Wood ruff h eated u p District 29 motocr oss action by roosting aw ay to a fou rmota swee p of the 125 and 2SOcc C classes at the Devils Ridge motocross facility. Wood ruff is fresh off a nati onal fourth-place ranking from the Loretta Ly n n 's Amateur Nationals in the C division, and he was clearly the cJass of the field on this day. Woodruff easily made m in ce mea t of the 125cc C division, as he walked off and hid from the field aboard his MSR/Hammerhead Graphics/PJI/Big Bill Racing/Kawasaki of Raleigh- backed KX in both motes, Mike Brown was the only rider in the field to keep Woodruff within view, but fell short and had to settle for the runner-up position for the day. Kevin Inscoe was able to give Kawasaki a 1-2-3 sweep of the class . by rounding out the top three with a 4-3 score over Steve Cole and Su zuki-mounted John Schafer. Woodruffs dominance was also clearly evident in the 250cc C cJass as well . when he shot out of the gate in moto one to take the po int. By lap two, Woodruff had established his lead and was gone, leaving a tremendous five-way battIe for second in his wake . Danny Skipper tried his hand at running out ahead of the pack, but Ryan Schafer turned out to be the man on the move when he turned up the throttle and reel ed in Skipper by mota's end to take the runner-up spot. Woodruff once aga in pulled a s t ro n g holeshot over the field w hen mota two of the 250ccC class got underway. Rothrock was out to. prove a point that moto one 's fifth-pla ce finish was a mistake, as he shot into second over Skipper. Aydr and Schafer worked into fourth and fifth when the pack sorted out by the end of lap one. Rothrock stayed within sbildng distance to Woo druff fo r the firs t few ci rc ui ts before Woodruff kicked in high gear and set sail for the checkered flag. Skipper bobbled on lap two and allowed not only Aydr an d Schafer to squeak by, bu t Donaldson also. Woodruff collected his fourth mota win we ll ahead of Roth rock, who came in second a good 10 second s ahead of the rest of the pacIc. Results 50: 1. Chn. Nom. (Suz); 2. Thomu tuyn (JCTM); J .
