Boser blasts Pagoda MX
By Dic k Archer
BIRDSBORO. PA. OCT. 2
Ho nda-mounted jon Boser was definitely on top
of th ings as he powered his wa y to victori es in
the 250cc A a nd Collegeboy A classes at Pagoda
MX. winning all four motos despite stiff competit io n from local rivals Dave Green. jeff Cook
and Dan Ross.
As the gate dropped in the 250cc A class,
Boser jumped on it, pu lling the holeshot and
taking control from there . Dave Green and hung
close for a few laps, but Boser s lowly pulled
away, leaving the battle for second to Green and
Jeff Cook. Green edged out Cook in both motos
for second overall.
The blazing B class was where the real racing
was happening. Paul Waslin won both motos in
the Collegeboy B and finished 1-2 in the 125cc B,
w hic h was good enough for the overall wi n.
Waslin, jason Gombert, Gary Weaver and Kurt
Robbins all hammered at each other th roughout
both 125cc motos. Waslin and his KX won the
first showdown, but by moto two the track had
become har d-packed and fast. jason Gombert
tuned up on the thr ottle and gave Waslin a run
for h is mo ney . A good start and the ability to
hook up his Ho nda , particula rly in the comers,
put hi m in front to win mo to two. Waslin finished second, bu t he took the overall for the day
outdoing Gombert's 4-1.
The SOcc action was intense, as Casey Clar k
co nti n ue d h is w in ni ng w ays, w h ip pi ng th e
en tire field with relati ve ease in the (7-11) class .
The SOcc (12-13) was action packed as well. j im

Pocorobba, Tipping topple
Reddick Motocross
By Ky le Mye rs
REDDICK, FL. OCT.9
Anthony Pocorobba and jarrett Tipping were the
big winners on this day, taking advantage of the
Suzuki contingency money as Pocorobba topped
four classes, while Tipping won th e 125 and
250cc Bevents at Motocross of Marion County.
In the first Pro d ivision moto Brian Swin k
ha d the hot clu tch hand and rocketed th rou gh
the first comer w ith josh Latina , john Fes le r,
Phil Lawrence a nd Gene Naumec following him.
Lawrence quickly moved by Fesler, who was the
only 125 pilot in the field. Lawrence then fell in a
turn right in fr ont of Na u mec, as Pocorobba
s lip ped underneath both riders to move in to
third. Pocorobba slowly closed in on Latina and
made his mov e a roun d the halfway mark. With
the first four po sit ions set, Swink, Pocorobba,
Latina and Naumec, the battle for fifth was serious. jason Syber t, Travis Blackburn, Fesler a nd
Lawrence all through fo r th e fif th sp o t with
Lawrence comi ng out on top .
The second moto had Pocorobba out front
o ve r Swink a nd Lawre nce, b ut Blackburn
end oed on the long tabletop and the race was
red-nagged. On the rest ar t, SNR /Race Tech /
O'Neal-backed Pocorobba again jumped into the
lead with Sw ink , Lawrence, Erick Cla isse and
Na umec in pursuit As the field hit the first double Swink cased the jum p and retired from the
moto with a bro ken reed . This left the door open
fo r Pocorobba, who opened up a five second
lead over Lawr ence . Lawrence fo ll owed
Pocorobba for a couple of laps, then he made his
mov e and closed in on Pocorobba. Pocor obba
handled the pressure well and pulled awa y after
a bobb le by Lawrence late in the race. Pocorobba
crossed the finish line for the moto and overall
win ove r Lawrence, Naumec, Latina and Fesler.
Pocorobba returned later to win all six motos
in the 16-24, 125cc and 250cc A classes.
In other rac in g ac tion Honda /Suzuk i l
Kawasaki of Ocala-backed Tipping cleaned house
in the B divisions. Tipping's only loss carne in the
125cc B first moto . Ronnie Renner took the win
over Tipping, but Tipping won the all-important
second moto to secure the overall victory.

Rayborn III clinches AFM title
at Sears Point Road Race
By J a cq u eli n e Jouret
SONOMA. CA, OCT.9
To ea rn the AFM's number -one p late for 1994,
Cal Rayborn III had to win the Form u la Pacific
race at Soars Point International Raceway.
He also n eed ed a little help from his competit ors, and he go t it from Nick Felli. By passing Jam es Randolph for second place, Felli gave
Ra yb orn III the crucia l po in ts advantage he
needed to relegate Randolp h to seco nd in the
cha mpio nshi p chase.
Rayborn III led from the start on his Cycle
Gea r-spo n so red Kawasaki. Once Felli passed
Tea m Suz uki Sport' s Ra nd ol ph o n la p three,
however, Rayborn III had to tum up the pace to
stay in the lead. Felli was unable to attempt a
pass, but he was the only ride r to come close to
matching Rayborn Ill's speed . Rando lp h had
st arted the day in first for the se ries, but his
DOT-shod GSX-R750 couldn' t handle the pa ce
set by the lead duo, riding on slicks. Randolph
settled into a comfortable third place, well ahead
of Stars po rt's Peter Wensloff on a TZ25O.
Brian Parriott held on to fifth on his CBR600,
eno ugh to keep him in the AFM' s top three for
the season. Parri ott also wrapped up two class
championships with victories in 600cc Production a nd Superstree t over David Francis , who
ended the year second in both classes.
In the Formula One divi sion, Robert Nunez
moved past Mike Riley into first with a demon ic
braking maneuver goin g into the turn-Tl hairpin
and was never challenged for the lead. Nunez
took h is third consecutive F-I vict ory a nd the
class cha m p ions h ip on an FZR400 against the
bigger four-strokes and TZ2SOs of the class .
In the Formula Two class, jeff Leggitt took his
Second runawa y victory in a row on a TZR2SO
aga inst the purpose-built TZs of his competitors.
Greg Prinsze 's second-place finish left him a few
points shy of Dave Avery for the championship,
but his efforts to hold off the hard-<:ha rging Warren Dunaway provided a grea t show in the race's
closing stages. Dunaway finished in thi rd , with
Do n Grijalva fou rth and Avery fifth, gai ni ng
eno ugh points to win the series.

In the second m ot e. Eric Edwards grabbed

Edwards thought he had the moto in the bag,
until his front brake assembly spun downward
on the handlebars when he landed hard off a

Edwards carried too much speed into a loamy

he crashed. Owens cruised past the fallen ride r,
