Ingrande, Ellis shake up Barona Oaks Motocross By Homer Eubanks o RAMONA,CA ,SEPT. 2S Angelo Ingra nde and Shawn Ellis became inseparab le during rou nd 16 of the CMMC Barona Oaks Raceway series, as the two 125cc riders tang led th roug ho ut the day in both the 125cc Intermed iate/ Expert and Open classes. Ingrande holeshot the I25ee In term ediate/ Expert first moto and found Ellis sha dowing his every move. Ellis was able to pull alongside on severa l occasions, but he stuck his foot too deep in a comer, allowing Ingrande to go on to the checkered. Moto two started like the first, but this time Ellis ma de hi s pass s tick o n th e th ir d lap . Ingr an de glued his Honda to Ellis' Suzuki for six of the 10 laps, befo re falling out of cont ention . Ingrande pull ed out of the second Open race, giving the overall to Ellis. S u permi ni ac tion got hot and furiou s between overall wi nner Emitt Kling and Scott Conley. John Hopkins holeshot moto one, and Kling jumped out first in the second round. Con ley and Kling got by Hopkins but Conley was able to pull away from Kling in the first moto. In mot o two, however , Kling came back with a vengeance. Con ley was able to get aro und, but Kling repassed him every time. Con ley dropped h is Team Gree n Kaw asaki and fin ish ed fifth with a front flat, as Kling took home top honors in the class. Walker atte mp ted to pass Ramsey on the inside just be fore the tabl etop section, but he was unsuccessfu l. He finally passed Ramsey just before the do ubles, and he mov ed into first place, taking the checkered flag in the moto and first pla ce overall. Walker swift at Daniel Boone Motocross By Kathy Smith LONDON, KY, SEPT. 18 Kevin Walker had a fan tastic day at the Daniel Boone Motocross Park, scoring wins in the 12Scc A class during round 13 of the Ken tuck y State MX Ch ampionship . Th e Gear /Pro-Action /Sm ith' s HarleyDavidson /Yamaha of Kingsport /Dunlop /B ig Bill 's Racing /Scott/Hammerhead Graphicssponsored Walker su rvived intense battles with Greg Rand in moto one and Nathan Ramsey in mota two to earn the victory. In the first moto of the 125cc A class, Rand took the lead on the first lap, followed closely by Walker and Chad Lou gh, By the second lap, Walk er had grabbed the lead , w hile Rand had fallen in to se cond place. Wal ker w as ab le to secure the lead , nabbing the win at the checkered flag. Rand fin ish ed se cond , and Lough came in th ird . Ramsey had tro uble in the first moto, go ing down in the whoops, but he was able to shine in the second mota. In an excit ing second mota, Walk er wen t down in th e first turn and began th e race in nint h place. Ramsey took the lead early in the race, followed by Rand, Robby Cook and Brad Strunk, Ramsey and Rand were d icing hard for the po int. While Ramsey and Rand were battling it out for first, Walker was also jamming, quickl y moving from ninth place to sixth and fina lly in to third place, where he was knockin g on Rand 's back door. Stacy Bream er had pro blems in tum one, stalling her bike. Chinen d ominat ed ea rly, as War ch and Hollow raged in a tight battle for second place. Ho llow was pressin g Warch hard and set up on the inside to control the com er and pass Warch. Warch immediately retaliated; squ aring off the comer and regaining the position by the ne xt tum, but Hollow wou ld not be denied and finally made th e pass st ick, relegat in g Warch to third . Cou ch was in fourth, trying to stay with the lead ers. Couch came up short on the finish double and endo ed in spectacu lar fash ion, knocking herself out momen tarily. Schipper had her hands full with a charging Stacy Breamer, who had moved all the way to fifth wi th in three laps and was no w right on Schip per'S rear fend er. By lap five, Couch had picked herself up, and caught and passed both Schipper and Breamer. Chinen was up front and cru ising as the moto wound down. and she finished first, followed by Hollow, Warch, Couch, Schipper and Breamer. Mota tw o continued th e very compe titive and aggressive style of the prev ious moto.,Chinen again holeshot wi th Hollow and Warch hot on her heels. Chinen se t a bli ster ing pa ce, as Ho ll ow a nd Warch s ta lked her, lookin g for errors and find ing none. slowly extended her lead by ridi ng flawl es sly while Warch stayed close to Hollow. But Warch over-jumped the finish-line double, gh osting her bike in the p ro ce s s. H ollow powered awa y as Wa rch remoun ted and char ged after the pack. Chinen Sean Light came from behind to win the aoee A Champ ionship at the Roseburg ST. Schipper and Annette Terry were having a fight over positions when disaster stru ck. Schipper lost control off a blind downhill jump, and Terry, with nowh ere to go, drilled Schipper ha rd in the back. Terry and Connie Parsons stayed with the downed Sch ipper until he lp arr ived. Schipper finally remounted and finished. Terry's bike had trouble starting, and Par so ns' bik e had d rain ed ou t its remaining fue l while she helped Schipper. In the first 12Scc Youth moto, Rake led the way. w ith Brad Cannon, Darren McElh att an , Mike Darling and Ray Hans en follow ing. Dan Newberry passed Hansen in the whoops on the opening lap to move into the fifth positio n. Rake imm ed iately added to his lead , whi le ~cE lhat ten moved his way by Cannon. Honda /Suzuki/Kawasaki of Ocala-backed Rake pulled out an eigh t-second advantage, as' McElha tten was well ahea d of Cannon in third. Hansen made a late cha rge to move by Darling, whil e Rake he ld on for the easy 'w in over McElhatten , Cann on, Newberry and Hansen. Rak e powered to t he fro nt of the field to start mota two with Cannon, Darling. McElhatta n and Newberry in tow. As the pack h it the first downhill McElhattan sailed by Darling and Cannon to tak e over th e ru nner-up position . Mea nwhile, Rake turned on the afterb urners and ope ned up a sizab le lead at the en d of the first circui t. McElhattan was all alone in the second sp0l, while Darling was being hounded by Newberry and Hansen . Newberry passe d Darling, then Hansen mad e his move to knock Darling back to sixth. Positions stayed th e same with Rake recording the mota and overall win over Mc Elhattan, Cannon, Newbe rry and Hanse n. In one of his last appearances on a Suzu ki, Brian Swink swep t both motos in the Pro d ivision. In both moto s Swi nk jumped out to the early lead where he would stay until the finish . Taylor H on d aKawsaki/ Mom and Dad-b acked Beau Bro wn , winner of 11-stra ight 80cc Exper t ma in events, wrapped up th e class champio ns hip with his gutsy rid ing, winni ng both heat races as we ll as fe ndi ng off challenger Mike Pier ce and Bo Ingels. "This was the fastest the track ha s been all season, " said Brown . "Ir s a great feeling to win the series." The d ay's biggest surp rise came in the form of 10-year-old Sean Light . Light ov ercame a poor start and clawed his way into a challenging position in the SOcc Amateu r A main, taking took the lead from Honda rider Dam ien Saltzman on the last lap. Ligh t, rid ing the Chehalem Moto rsp ort /Sinisa!o /Cycle Sports- backed KX, came ba ck from a quarter of a lap deficit to motor past Saltzman, who had to win the main to w in the series. Saltzman, Chad Feely, Brandon Zerbach and David Powell filled out the top five behind Light The South prevailed in 125cc action, as Suzuki rider Chris Sheets got revenge by leading the 12Scc A main wi re to wire. For Sheets, it was a do-or-die win, since the only other ride rs in contention for the class title were dose behind him. Brown did all he could to relegate Sheets to second, but he fell short.
