CA, sm.18 Roo kie P ro Tra v is P reston a n d Bill y " Id o l" Mercier romped through the Pro ranks during the opening round of the GA Fall Series at Perris Raceway. A co mb in ed total of more the 1000 rid er s a nd spec tators converged on th e revised race facility, which featured an all-new wider course. Preston po wered his FMF-tuned YZl 25 to a doub le-mota sweep of the 125cc Pro class in his d ebut rid e as a professional. "Tha t was easy; Pres ton said afterwa rds . Those gu ys rea lly pin it " Pres ton made it look easy by posting a pair of sta rt- to-fin ish wins, top p in g Ray Henseley and Stev e An d rich . Presto n's motor cycle was protested aft er th e second mota w hen it was suspect ed of ha ving an oversize bo re, but race officials deemed the bike legal and declared him the winner of the even t Mercier was equally impressive in the 25Oa: Pro class by storming to a doubJe.moto victory. Merci er, wh o changed hi s ha ir colo r and appearence to resembles rock singer Billy IdoL had to deal wi th Preston d uring bot h outings, b u t in the end, Mercier' s experience p roved to be the diffe rence. Preston crashed during the firs t moto , bu t charged back to second by the end of the race in front of Steve Drew and Shay Fretwell. The secon d mo to saw Pres to n put th e p ressu re on Mercier late in the mo to, but Mercier took it all in stride. Preston crashed again and then opted to se ttle for second place in the mota behind Mercier . Adam Pierce was aweso me in his first ma jor race afte r a broken fem ur stop ped him ea rly in the year. Pierce pos ted the overall wi n in the 125cc Novice class and proved that he is indeed back to speed with an incredible seco nd- mo ta runaway.
