Lewis, Perolio grab CRC
cash at LACR Motocross
By Greg Robertson
PALMDALE, CA,SEPT. 16
Kyle Lewis and Shaun Perolio scored the 250cc
a nd 125cc Pro-class wins, respectively, to take
ho me the lion's share of cash during Cali fornia
Racing Club' s 300% Pro payback n igh t at Los
Angeles County Raceway .
Lewis made his intentions clea r by getti ng
around fast-starter Ryan Carlisle on the opening lap of the first 250cc Pro moto. Fro m that
p o in t on t he Team N ol een / Siz zl e r / T RE/
Bridgestone-backed Lewis st re tched out his
lead all the way to the finis h. Jeff Willoh rai led
around Carlisle to push him back, to t hi rd .
Terry Parsons also got around Carlisle a nd then
pressured Willoh to make him work for his second-place finish.
Willoh edged out Lewis for the seco nd-moto
holeshot, but Lewis had control with the first
circuit completed. Lewis p ut his foo t down
wro ng, causing some pain and temporary slowing, which allowed Willoh to shoot back into the
lead . Lewis was quickly back up to speed and
was all over Willoh. A couple of laps later,
Lewis squared off under Willo h a nd won th e
drag race to the following tu m to grab the lead .
Willoh stayed within striking di sta nce all the
way to the checkered flag. Parsons took a close
third ahead of Carlisle and Tony Sulek.
The first 125cc Pro moto sta rt belonged to
Willoh with Perolio right on hi s rea r fend er.
Pe rolio would sta y clos e to Willoh the entire
mota, waiti-:,g for a mi stake that never ha ppened. Parson came from a d ead-last start to
stuff Sulek in a tu m just prior to the white flag
to finish third .
Perolio led Su lek, Willoh and Parsons
t hrough the firs t t urn as the final moto got
underway. Willoh high-sided in the second tum
a nd had to p ick h imself up in las t place . Up
fron t, Perolio had his han ds full with both Sulek
and Parsons, but picked up the pace and pu lled
to a three-second advanta ge a t th e halfwa y
point. WHloh wa s cutting so me fas t laps an d
soon joi ned Sulek and Parsons to mak e it a
three-way bat tle for second place.
Perolio made it look easy, takin g the secondmo to win with five secon ds to spare. Sulek and
Wilioh got a little too close on the fjnallap, with
Sulek goi ng down . Parsons and Willoh diced all
the way to the finish, wit h Parsons coming out
on top for second.

Dupree devastates
Barona Oaks Motocross
By Homer Eubanks
RAMONA, CA,SEPT. 17
John Dupree and David Pelton provided plenty
of Sideways excitement at the Darona Racewa y
Short Track. Equally as impressive was Brad
Holt, who dominated the 250cc action.
Dupree wa s ca ugh t off gua rd in the main
and allowed first-heat winner Rick Schroeder to
take the early lead. Dupree stu d ied Schroed er' s
lines for three laps before d ecid ing he would
have to make a hard charge insi de to take the
lead . Once Dupree had the lead, Schroeder
found himself in another heated battl e with Pelton , who took second place. Pelton closed in on
Dupree , but it wa s Dupree at the chec ke red
flag.
Holt came into the 250cc main alread y heated up after a wire--to-wire win in the hea t race.
The main event was to be a repeat for Holt, who
performed flawlessly, leading the charge in to
tu m one and never looking back. Shawn Ireland
moved around four riders to take second bu t
couldn't make a challenge on Ho lt, who was
nowhere in sight.
PALMDALE, CA,SErf. 18
Th e California Racing Club's 125cc Begin ner
class will pr obably breathe a sigh of relief whe n
Tyler Buck makes the mov e to the Novice class,
as the Suz u ki RMI2 5 p ilot p icked up an oth er
win via a 2-1 tally d ur ing Sun d ay motocross racing at Los Angeles County Racewa y.
Trav is Smith blas ted his YZI25 into the earl y
fir st -mote lea d . Buck ga te d second w ith Joe
Barker, Jamie Pamintuan and Zach Bobeta running th ird th rou gh fifth . Bobeta mad e qu ick
work of Barker and Pa min tua n to mo ve up to
third. Bobeta started pus hing Buck and the two
of them reeled in Smith to ma ke it a three-rider
braw l for the top spo t.
Bob e ta go t a ro u nd Buck a nd was putting
serious pressu re on Smith until he got sideways
comi ng ou t of a corn er and shot off the track.
Buck inherited second p lace and p icked up the
s lac k to close to Smith ' s rear wheel. Bob e ta
jump ed bac k on th e track ju st behind thi rdplaced Kevin Townse nd , and the two of them
qu ickly cau ght the two front-ru nners.
The last couple of laps were anybod y' s race,
as Smith , Buck, Townsend and Bobeta were all
over each other in a sp rint to the finish. Smith
ended up coming out on top just a couple of feet
ah ead of Buck, who was an equal d istance ahead
of Bobeta and Townsend.
Smith duplica ted his first-mote start to lead
Buck and Townsend as mo to two bega n. Buck
stud ied Smith' s lines for a little over a lap before
making his move into the lead . Smith tried to
stic k with Buck, but the smooth-riding Buck,
sp ons o red b y Suzuki of O xnard, grad ually
pulled awa y to the tune of a five-second advantage at the chec kered flag. The dice for second
lasted the entire moto, with Smith holding off
Townsend for a welt-deserved secon d in the
mo ta and second overall.
Bast Jr. were righ t there knocking on the doo r
wi th eight poin ts each. Robert Curry and Vance
Felicio each had six, p utting them in third.
II looked as if the cham pi onsh ip would be
d ecid ed in event 17, wh en Sisemore a nd Bast
faced off for the only time during the competi tion . But tha t was not to be, as fate stepped in
and ch an ged the p icture. In the las t ev en t of
round fo u r, Pa t Linn we n t w id e and hit the
fence, taking out Sise more in the process. Linn
scored one point and Sisemo re ended up ea rning a zero for the round, which wou ld make it
very d ifficult to catch Bast.
When Sisemore a nd Bast faced off in heat
17, thefans were on the edges of their seats . If
Sisemore could pull off the win and Bast finished last , th e rid ers would be tied. Sisemore
came off the line like a rocket to take the ea rly
lead . Bast w as abl e to get alon gsid e but was
n ev er abl e to compl e te the pass. Sisemore
crosse d th e lin e firs t for th e w in and three
poin ts, but Bast was right there to finis h second
and clinch th e vict ory.
"My winn ing tonight had partly to do with
my good and Jimmy's (Sise mo re) bad luck,"
Bast said . "We shou ld hav e gone into that final
event wit h a tied score and then seen who came
away with the win. "
With the last-round w in, Sisemore had put
himself into a three-way tie with Darrell Busby
and Robert C u rry fo r second place with 12
points each . The three riders lined up yet again
to decide who woul d sit alone in second place.
A very determined Sisemore took the holeshot
and led the race from the gate to checkered flag.
Curry finis hed seco nd giving h im third in the
overall standings .
