Isaacs takes Davenport Vintage Short Track By Ed Ahlf DAVENPORT, lA, SEPT. 2-3 Johnny Isaa cs rode his TPR Triumph twin to the Pro Twins victory in the YDTRA portion of the 6th Annual J&:P Prom otions Antiq ue Flat Track Races at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds. With all the Expe rt rid ers back from Unad illa an d tired of wa tching Johnson walk away with all the cas h, the da y's racing wasn't jus t another ride in the mu d, a t least in the 125cc class . Ride rs persevered in a stead y rain all da y w hich turned one of New England's fines t technical trac ks in to a slick mire, with the seco nd hal f being cance lled du e to hi gh-wi nd gu s ts. Ma ny classes w er e red uced to o nly five laps, and only one 125cc Expert-class moto was run. Scott Ca rter, a ve ry agg ressive rider at his best, w as on th e throttle o ut of th e ga tes, and grabbed the holesh ot. Johnson went d own but was ba k on in fif th behind Shane O 'Connor. Mike Treadwell was S<.'COnd ove r Pat Barton. For th e firs t four laps Carter rod e unchallenged in the lead , altho ug h Treadwell consisten tly gained on him each lap . The real ba ttle was for fourth betwee n O'Con nor and the veteran Johnson. O 'C onnor repeated ly loo ked over his shou ld er as Johnson reeled him in.
