The former resident of northern California took the middle berm through a slow offcamber, leaving Demaria room to cut across the inside and drop into the tum in front of him. "Vohland is my teammate and I was a little bit afraid of making contact w ith," said Dema ria . "He wa nted to win this race very bad . He was going very fast but sometimes he can be a bit of a wildman and I was worried to try to pass and lose the overall." "I rode with everyt hing that I had because I wanted to win this race so badly," said Vohland, who is in his second year of 250cc GP racing. "Yves set me up pretty good in that comer and I had to move ou t of the berm or he wa s going to knock me d own. It's rea lly hard to lose like tha t, gelling tha t close to winning such a big race . But I'm reall y proud of how I rode tha t race and I hope to ride a couple of more like this and win one before the series is over." . "I'm very happy abo ut my effort but it was almost too much," said Everts, the biggest winner on the day as far as the world cha mpionships go. "I was so tired an d in so much pain th at I was th inkin g of not eve n riding the second race. Bu t I put it out of my min d and tried to get back into the cha mpionship. "The bike jus t bogged then throttled again then bogged and it just wouldn't go," said Albertyn . "This was not a good trip to America!" . Stanton q uick ly star ted h is own charge to the lead but then seemed to back off just as fast. He fell off the pace an d eventually drifted ou t of the points all together, complaining afterwards of a lack of concentration and the uncomfortable feeling his recently inju red back was giving him . "I've got just a few more races to go in my career and I wasn' t going to risk th a t by rid ing over m y h ead tod ay," . sai d the v eteran member of Team Honda/l-SDO-COLLECT. With Stanton out of the picture an d everyone else suffering bad starts th e battle for the race two win and the overall would be decided between the GP regulars. Vohland led a noticeably tired Everts, DeWit, Barto lini, French rider Fred Bolley and Demaria. Lamson and Honda of Troy newcomer Mike Craig were next in line but neither possessed th e speed of th e lead group. Lamson would end up as the top domestic rider in the moto afte r passing both Bartolini and Bolley. Demaria made his move with 10 minutes to go, passing all the way up through to his Pepsi-Hon d a teammate Vohland .
