37-rider field stayed tight for the first three laps
and d idn't begin to stre tch out until lap fou r.
Defend ing regional cha mp ion Tom Girard jetted
awa y from the pack in a futile attempt to chase
d own Gibson while Sha wn Scholten h ad h is
hands full defending third place from the du o of
Dane Whaley and Samward rip. The three rid e rs t ra d ed p laces several tim es on laps fo u r
through six with Wardrip finally taking control
of third place for good by drafting by Scholten
on the straigh taway and into tum on e. Th en;
Wardrip passed Scholten on the outside exiting
tum one.
Eric Moe carved his way from 35th place in
the first lap to threaten Wardrip on lap 10. Moe,
rid in g a n ex-Muzzy Kawa saki, was s te adily
moving through the crowded field a t a blisterin g
pace but ran out of time before he could challen ge the leaders. Gib son -took a comfortable
win, with Girard 15 seconds behi nd in second
while Wardrip maintained third place despite
Moe's relenUess attack.
Further highlights included Ama teur Mike
Desmorais with five wins and one second place
for the weekend. Brian Conley continued to
dominate in the Lightweight Supersport and
Superbike categories with wins in bot h races.
First-year Experts Glen Paron a nd Pat Lamb
both look first-time wins in Lightweight GP and
Middleweight Supersport, respectively. The
" Wee ke n d Warrior" a wa rd goes ro Shawn
Scholten for top-five finishes in six eve nts.
