Cornwell topped Michael Barnes (Hon) an d Do ug Carm ic h ael (Hon) in the seven-lap, 28-mile race. According to a press release from the Flammini Group, the promoters of the World Championship Superbike Series, World Champion Sco tt Ru ss ell has earned $31,469 in prize money after three ro unds of the 1994 series. Aaron Slight has pocketed $23,955 and Giancarlo Falappa has earned $22,882. Amateur motocrosser Joey Clark , 19, was killed in an automobile accident on June 6 in his hometown of Orm ond Be ach, .Florida. Clark h ad recently returned home after racing in Budds Creek, Maryland, and Mt. Morris, Pennsyl vania , and was preparing for th e Loretta Lynn regional qualifier. The rule change - wh ich adds 20 pounds to the minimum weight limit of twin-eylinde r motorcycles in the series, raising them to 355 pounds, the same weight as the four-eylinders - was announced by the AMA on May 23, the day after the fourth round of the series which wa s held at Laguna Seca Raceway. In its press release, Cagiva North America says it had been asked by Ducati dealers, riders, customers and interes ted parties to comment on the "rule adjustment." . Cagiva North America's conclusions are as follows: "1. From a techn ical point of view this AMA decision is highly disputable, as well as in stark contrast to the FIM's assessment of the situation. 2. The decision to penalize Ducati is being taken after fou r events withou t notice which is, in our opinio n, against the spirit of fair play and sporti ng competition. 3. This decision da mages the (approx.) ten rider/ teams currently competing on Ducatis. These participants have invest ed vas t amoun ts of time, money and enthusiasm in the U.s. Superbike Series and includ e Fast By Ferracci, the dominant team of the series thus far. 4. Cagiva North America and Ducati Italy suggest that the affected partici pants take a positio n that reflects their best interests in this matter. 5. Cagiva North America will pressure all concerned to prevent partici patio n in any AMA Superbike event next year unl ess a sa tisfactory soluti on regarding this rule adjus tment is quickly reached. 6. Cagiva North America is considering all availab le options to protect its image, name, prod ucts and commercial interests damaged by this unila teral AMA decision." McDonald ha s al so been hired b y Smokin' Joe's Racing team owner Martin Adams to help the team sort out its problems with the new Honda RC45. McDonald will wor k with the team during test sess ions at Road Atlanta following the sixth round of the series at New Hampshire Internati onal Speed way on June 19. Husaberg America has announced that it will supply rental bikes for competitors at the ISDE which will be hel d in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Sep tember 20-25. Reigning World Champion Sam Ermolenko (right) shook off the injuries which have plagued him for yet another season to post the top score of the meeting, earning 14 of a possible 15 points and sending a strong message that he intends to keep his w o rld crown in ' 94. Fellow American G reg Hancock, who was actually tied wit h Ermolenko early in the meeting, scored 12 points and finished second after a run-off with Australian Craig Boyce. Americans Josh Larse n and Bill y Ham ill scored nine and eight poin ts, respectively, co mi ng on strong in the late rounds to also advance. Lei gh A d a ms, Jason Kr ump, Chrts Lo u is and M ark Lora m rounded out the qualifiying field. The two American nonqualifiers were Du kie Ermolenko with six points and Mike Faria with two. Other nonqualifiers of note included English hopeful Joe Screen and 1992 World Champion Gary Havelock, also of England. There will be a lottery in Europe on Jun e 14 to seed all of the riders who qualified from the Overseas Final, Scandinavian Final, and the Continental Semifinals in Poland and Hungary for the World Championship Semifinals in Prague, Czech Republic and Bradford, England, which will run concurrently on July 10. F Pace Motorsports president Gary Becker awa rd ed the fir st-ever C.E. Altman Good Neighor Award to top privateer Larry Ward after the Las Vegas Supercross on Jun e 12. The award, which is na m ed for th e la te C. E. Altman, the chairma n of Pace Motorsports, will be given annually to the top 250cc privateer in the AMA Supercross Series. Ward will receive $5000 fo r th e honor, and the award will be located at the Pace Motorsports office in Houston, Texas. Five-time Wo rld Champion Rog er DeCoster was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame in Novi, Michigan, on Wednesday, June 8, marking the first time that a motocrosser has been inducted . Nine others we re also inducted, incl uding NAS CAR Ch ampion Cale Yarborough , NHRA drag racer Bob Glidden, boat racer Bernie Little, sport car racer Ji m Hall and Indy Car racer Bobby Unser.
