Jo iner powered to the front of the field in moto tw o to show his fellow riders the fast wa y around the track. Allred , [anuszyk, Tatham and Thompson tried to keep the pace, but to no avail. In bo th th e Senio r and Pro cl asses, Myrick was on the throttle from the starting line and unchallenged through both races. . To add a bit of nosta lgia for the seni or racers , mo st o f the tr ack lights blew during the 60cc heat which ran just before the Senior heal. The Seniors started with an infield full of vehicles lighting up tums two, three and four with their head ligh ts. Undaunted by the unusual lighting. 1993 Senior champ Myrick got the early jump in the Senior class while Ca rl Nab inger picked h is Kawasaki through the pack to cha llenge secondpla ce rid er Jolin Thomas on an Ossa. Nabinger and Th omas battled ha nd lebar to handleb ar through the turns un til Nabinger got the ed ge at the checkered flag for second, jus t inches in front of Thomas. Myrick repeated his Senior start in the Open Pr o class, blastin g inlo the lead righ t off the starting line. Super Senio r and Pro racer Nor~ man Laviolelle th undered on his Harl ey to a distant second-place finish. In 80cc action, TItI\ Turcotte fired his Honda into an ea rly I"" d , leav ing Adam Laviolette an d Joshua Bailey to bailIe it out for second on boa rd their Kawasakis. Sliding aro und tum two, tire to tire, Laviolette took Bailey in the drag race d own the straight, the n ate away at Tur cotte's lead until he was all over Turco lle on th e last lap. MAY21 Donnie Mullen pulled a rare Amateur class doubl e, winning th e BOcc and 250cc B cla sse s in short track action at Trail-Way Speedway. While other Amateur riders have do ub led before, it was usually in the large displacemen t cla sses, unli ke Mu llen, w ho "bo rrowed" his b rother's H on d a a n d too k the 250cc B final. After battling Jake Johnson in their 250cc B hea t, Mullen jumped right ou t in front of Johnson. Joe Zydinsky and Ben Miller. Zydinsky look second when Johnson drifted high comin g off the second tum on lap two , but Johnson retoo k second on the sixth lap. By then, Mu llen had a large margin and sewed up the win. Right after takin g the checkered flag. Mull en then jumped on his SOcc Suzuki an d p roceeded to d omina te th a t class. Warren Diem had his usual double wins cut in ha lf by Jim Hollist er, who beat Diem, Bob Swee ten a nd Lowell Wh erley in the 600cc A final, But when the same gro up returned for the Veteran 30+ class. Diem had a fire lit underneath him this time and he beat the field by half a straightaway. . Sweeten's Kawasaki seized three lap s from the end while leading the 250cc A class, giving Paul Lynch a hard-fought win over Ace Phillips, Tom Skethway and Mike McKee. MAY2S-29 Suzuki suppo rt rider Jiri Dostal and local hero Tyler Evans mixed it up all da y long in the 80cc (14-15) cla s,es, with Dostal taking ho me the Stock class victory d uring the Motowest/Parls Unlimited AMA Loretta Lynn Qualifier held a t the Hollister HiIls motocross track. Nearly 20 loads of new sand and 14 days of wo rk by the California Slale Department of Parks and Recreation went into track preparation before the day's evenl. "'Th e work wa s well worth it " said Race Director Malt Lorenzo. " I've doubled the number of entries from last year', race". The lrack at Hollister ha' been a past home of the USGP and has been in operation since 1975. The event was also run in conjunction with the AMA/District 36 Central California Spring MXSeries. Sco ll Co n ley a n d Jiri Dos ta l shared the holeshol during the flrst80cc (14-15) moto while heavy fa vorite Tyler Evans started third . By the end of the first lap , Evans moved into seco nd but was severa l bike lengths behind Dostal, who was riding smooth ly an d con tro lled up front. Near the midpoint of the mot o, third -p lace rider Conley Ix. gan to lake some heat from Doug Parsons as the two began to battl e for th ird . On lh e final two laps of the mo to, Eva n ' began to pick up the pace and started to close down on the lead er, Dostal . When the whi te flag waved. Evans began to let it all hang out in an effo rt 10 pass Dostal. With three turns to go, Evans pulled off a seat-of-the-pan ts pas' on Dostal 10 ta ke the win. Roun di ng out the top three was Co n ley , who h eld o ff a mot o-Ion g charge fro m Pa rs o n s, w hil e Jeff N orthrop crossed the line in the fifth spo l. The second mo to sa w Jimm y Var is a n d Dostal share the spotlight, with Evans on fire in third an d making a quick pa ss on Varis d uring the opening lap. Evans then went aft er Dos tal for the lead, and the two m ini pilots battl ed closely for the entire moto, nev er more then a few bike lengths apart.
