(Above) Dan Wallace (31), Chris Hunter (500) and Brian Deegan (58) did battle in the Open Outlaw class at White sands Raceway. Deegan scored the overall win. (Below) Chaz Smith (711) diced with Shane Mitchell (33) in the BOcc Beginner class at Sunrise Valley Raceway. The first moto of the Open C class proved to be more dramatic than the second . In the first moto, Paul Nonpas jum ped out to the early lead followed by Herber. On the first lap, however, Herber proved to have the edge in figuring out the steepened whoops as he leaped by Nonpas in the whoop sect ion; Mark Wannarka was in th ird position. The trio remained in these positions for the next few laps while Non pas made allempts to pa ss Herber, only to ha ve Herber gain the advantage again in the whoop section. In the laller stag es of the race, Nonpas almost made his pass for the lead stick when he passed Herber on a fa st straightaway section of the track, but then got tangled up with in Herber's bike. As the two wobbled and touched handlebars, it looked as if either could go down, but Herber came out on top as Nonpas bailed over the bars. He was able to remo unt for third by moto's end. At the checkers, He rbe r won with Wannarka at his heels and Nonpas a wa ys back . Moto two proved to be less inten se, w ith Nonpas gelling the holeshot and making it last to the fmish . Herber finis hed the moto in sec ond, good enough for the overall win, and Wannarka rounded out the top three . The Youth class demonstrated a field of talen t. Afte r some hard-fou ght competition, Lee Theis claimed the win in the class on his Honda, wi th Shelly Kann fmishing second overall. Results M O O MINI; 1. Bnlnd on Andenon (yllIm); 2.
