In a sport which normally separates opponents b y single marks, Tarres bea t his nea rest rival- this year's revelation, Angel Garda - by an asto unding 23 points. Tarres also had the pleasure of watching his championship rivals, Marc Colomer and Tommi Ahvala, falte r and slip in the series point standings. Entering the round, Tarres enjoyed a slim one- point lead over the du o who were tied for second, but now enjoys a he alth y 1D-point m argi n over his ne arest rival. Co lomer finished fifth on th e day, w hile Ahvala was a terrib le 13th. The championship has not yet reached the halfway .mark, bu t Ta rres does no t appear willing to let it be deci ded until the last hours. Tarres won at Osnabrock wi th a tremend ous d isp lay of strength, an d it was a vinta ge Tarres who sent out a clear m essage that he is after his sixth World Championship . The greatest trialer of all time, Tarres held all the aces in a game 'of poker that sa w hi s rivals lea ve em p tyhanded . It w as an extraordinary display of talent all weekend long . "O f course I am happy," said Tarres, after his resounding win. "But I am happy more for the way that I rode, than for the victory itself. 1 felt so strong today that I felt capable of doing anything."
