Timmy Baker continued his d ominance of the
250/5OOcc B and Open classes, as the 1994 South
Florida Mot ocross Ch ampionship returned to
Clewiston's Oub Motosport MX Park for round
four.
Baker, a boa rd hi s se lf-s p onsore d H on d a
CR250, entered round four with a six-moto win
streak in the 250/ 500cc B class. Baker finish ed as
h e entered - und efe ated - takin g bo th mo tos
over John Hauf, John Lewis and Levan Buchaksian. Baker's toughest competition would come
in th e Open class as Honda CR250-moun ted
Todd Gardner ha d yet to lose a mota at CMMX.
Gardner pull ed the firs t-mote holesh ot and led
the fastest two laps of the da y befo re succumbing to the Baker freig ht lrain. Baker took the lead
on lap three and never loo ked back , sweepi ng
all four molDShe entered, th us endi ng Gardner's
undefeated s trea k and es ta blishi n g an eigh tmoto win strealc of his own.
In 125a: B action, it wa s once again Jup iter
Cycle Racing's Suzuki-mounted Chris Manning
taking the overall win, bu t not without a battle.
Shaw Dunkel owned the first-mota holeshot
and took the lead ove r Steve Hyatt and Kevin
Herrick. Dunkel set a blisterin g pace which
Manning and Hyatt matched but coul d not bet ter, The riders held their pos itions until the fifth
lap, when Manning bo bbled and Hyatt moved
past. Manning stru ck back qu ickly, re ga ining
second position and holding it till the fina l lap .
As the whi te flag ca me ou t, the Dunkel/ Manning /Hyatt battle entered heavy tra ffic. Dun kel
was pushed to the outside of a right-hander by a
Iappe r, a n d that's ill1 the b reak Manning an d
Hya tt need ed . The two riders dove to the inside,
passing Dunkel. Dunkel charged back, but at the
finish it wa s Manning, Hya tt and a disappointed
Dunkel finishing 1-2-3, respec tively. Dunkel
once again owned the start in the second moto,
bu t it wa s Hyatt moving by on the second lap
who se t the pace. Hyatt would ho ld the lead
over Dunlcel and Manning until the last lap . As
in the first mota, lapped traffic wo uld again be
the leaders' downfall. First Dunkel. then Manning moved by as Hyatt struggled with lappers.
Dunkel got his revenge, winning the mota, bu t
Manning's 1-2 moto scores earned him the overall . A d ejec ted H yatt finished third, for third
overaJl.
