In the 12.5cc A class, Johnson jumped out to th e early lead on ly to reti re two laps into th e race after his coil wire came off. This gave local rider Anthony Pocorobba the lead that he wo uld hold onto for the whole race. Carst en, Barton, Crine and Silva rounded ou t the top five. When th e second moto go t u nderway, Ca rs ten snagged the holeshot ove r Pocor obb a an d Johnson . Johnson followed the leaders until th e ha lfw ay po in t th en moved in to the lead . Don Boespflug won the first qualifier, which took the top five to the main event, over Corey Shepherd an d Mik e Bell. Grayson Hart won h eat tw o ahead of Biere k and Bailey. In the main ev en t, Boespflug pus hed to th e head of th e pack on the single-track course, which m a d e p a ss ing ve r y d ifficul t. Core y Fuller, on e of the few Int ermediat e rid ers to mak e Frida y's main , gav e ch ase onl y to crash, moving Bailey and Hart up a notch. Bierek a nd Shepherd waged a battle for the lead in th e cra sh marred seco nd qualifier. Boespflug wa s on e of sev e ra l rid er s to tangle in a tight comer , but then came from behind to nab third at the finish af ter winner Bierek and runner-up Shepherd. The cou rse, run the opposite d irection of the previous night, was much preferred by the rid ers, mo st notably Bierek , who got a h u ge jump on the pack at the start of the main event Bierek, rid ing the Quality Rentals /IT Racin g_backed CR, opened up a slim lead , but as with all racin g throughout the weekend, lapped rid ers early in the main caused havoc for the leaders . Ben beat brother Eric by just inches after a race-long battle, swa p pi n g the lead with his Honda-mounted brother for the entire race. Eric Bostrom led the start of the main followed by a crowd of Harley s. Ben Bostrom was in second and leading the entire stable of Dodge Brothers Racing XRs. Whi le th e Bostroms waged thei r own battle up front , Eddie Dodge sta rted wo rking on Andy Dodge, dropping him to fourth on lap three. The Bostroms then began swapping the lead , with Ben Bostrom taking the poin t only to have Eric Bostrom , who was making the most of Willow's cushion, run a round him in tu m fou r. The Honda /Harley dice continued unt il Ben Bostrom drove ou t of tum four on the final lap to beat Eric Bostrom to the finish by inches . Eddie , Bart and Darryl Dodge followed, rounding o ut th e top five. The Bos tr o ms continued to battle in the 600cc Pro class , but this time they were fighting over th e runne r- u p spot as Mark Le dbetter leaped ou t fron t on his Ron Wood / Ch ampi on Mot or cycl es / G .M.-backed Wood Rot ax a n d never looked back. Ben and Eric Bostro m once aga in went to wor k on each other, trying high and low lines to catch Ledbetter, but they nev er got the momentum to make a move. Ledbe tte r led to the checkered flag with Ben Bostrom just ahead of Eric Bostrom. A.J. He rrera a nd Dave Pelton rounded out the top five. The Seniors and Super Seniors left the line and lunged int o th e firs t tum three-w ide, with Gary Davi s taking co ntrol of the number-one spot tra iled by Rick Reed , Dave Bostrom and Mic key Alzol a . Bostrom found th e fas t line through Willow ' s d e ceptive turn two and passed Davis for the lea d only to get stu ffed by Davis in th e foll owing turn and return~d to second pl ace. Then Reed a lso got by Bostrom to retake seco nd a nd followed Davis to the finish. UEMSON, FEB. 12 Shane Te mp leton feels he 's on the verge of a breakthrough, and if recent perfonnances are any indication, h e may be rig ht. At the final round of the AMA Interstate Cycles /CSP Carolina Ind oor Winter Seri es in the T. Ed Garrison Arena, Templeton tu ck ed both the 125 and 250ccA ove rall titles under his kidney belt. It's not as if there was n't any compe tition. Temple-ton went up aga ins t su ch big guns as Greg Rand , Jeff Glass, Ma tt Maximoff, Bobby Stovall and Kevin Walker. This la s t ra ce o f the Indoo r Series drew nearly 250 riders, plus a packed house of spec tators. Tem pl eton trounced the l25cc A field, holding off Stovall, Todd Bai sden, Ga ylon Dickson and Bill Wallin, plus the rest o f the field of 19, for 14 ten sion-packed lap s. Mike Nutter, winner of the 250cc A class in the p revi o u s round, ac tu all y cl aimed t h e 125cc A holesh ot and looked good for a top-five finish un til he dropped his YZ halfway through th e contest. Templeton cruised to th e win, using lap pe d riders as blockers between himself and Stova ll. On the start of the 25Occ.A main, Templeton gated horribly be hind Stova ll, William Wilson, Robbie Taylor, Di ckson, Ro n a ld Bean and Michael Bear. Stova ll led for the entire race followed by Kevin Walker, Taylor, Dickson a nd Wilson, who remaine d str ong in a n excellent effort .
