Hlebo hammers SanJose Indoor Short Track By Mindyz Mac SANJOSE. FEB. IS John Hlebo blasted his Hon da off the back row to take the win over an imp ressive field of rid ers in the Pro / Modified main event at the San Jose Speedway during the sixth roun d of the Track One Promot ions / Engin es Only-promoted sho rt mack series . At the wave of the green flag. the rid ers dove into tum on e cau sin g a big pile-up, bu t all riders continued. Mark Kunsman eme rged from the pile-up in the lead followed by Hlebo and Cra ig Rogers. By the fourth lap, Hlebo had edged his way by Kunsman to take over the lead for good in the 12-lap even t. Mea nwh ile, beh ind Kun sman, wheel-t o-wheel were Rogers, Brett Landes and Rob Dam ron . The top five remained in the same orde r w ith the excep tion of Damron, who gra bbed fou rth fro m Landes a t the checkered flag. Action in the Pee/Wee Advanced class was do mina ted by Eric Car rillo, who scored his fifth win in a row . Carrillo led the race wire to wire. chased across the finish line by Johnny Ripley and Adrien Figueroa. The Vet Novice class took thr ee tries to get goi ng, a nd on the th ird restart Da vid You ng took the holesho t with Dennis Cameron and Dale Lineaweaver right behind him. You ng and Cameron battled for the lead w h ile Lineaweaver had his ha nd s full holding off the charges of Bret Wool. At the finish line , Young held on for the win w ith Cameron taking second and Wo ol stealing th ird fro m Lineaweav er. Te rry Vo gel was the winner in the e vergrowing Women's class as she held off the competition for a flag-to-flag victory.
