In mota one, Big Valley Ho nda /Yoko Vet Pro, Thorwaldson gra bbed the holeshot and was only threatened once by Kawasaki rider Mark Nason on lap four. Nason pulled off the track unable to finish the race. Meanwhile, BVH rider Stua rt Vogel hung on to second. BVH rider Tim Dyer ga ted p oo r ly an d had to pl ay ca tch- u p . Dyer worked into thi rd with two laps remai ning . Dyer made the pass on Vogel, bu t wo uld not catch Thorwaldso n. Randy Appleton, a newcomer to the Vet Pro class, ran in fourth, a nd Marty Pi sano held on to fifth place. Th orwaldson won, Dyer was seco nd, Stuart Vogel third , Randy Appleton fourth and Marty Pisano fifth. Vogel holeshot mota two with brother Steve on his tail as Thorwaldson and Robert Hansen battled for position. Vogel held the lead for two lap s, but Thorwaldson aced the tabletop ju m p and passed him in the air . Hansen passed Vogel on lap two and set his Yamaha on cruise. Thorwald son smoothly pulled away from the pack w ith at least a 10· bike lead. Voge l and Hansen had the only battle going for second, w hile Appleton and Dyer ran in fourth and fifth. When the checkered flew, it wa s Thorwaldson and Big Valley Honda with the Dealer Challenge w in. Vogel captured second overall, a n d Dy er scored a 2-5 for third ov erall. Appleton went 4-4 for fourth. Hansen finished fifth. A fair tu rn ou t of 60cc riders hail ed to the firs t tu rn with Kimco Cycles' Richard Duncan chewing up the compe tition and never letting off the gas. Running second was Jimm y Hazel. Tommy Jones ran third with Mars ha ll Wright in fourth; Matt Forbes and Shami Stillmock of the racing StiIlmocks rounded out the field. Hazel we nt d own in the co mplica ted whoop section and couldn't ge t h is bike going . Jones slipped by and took over second place. Haze l tried to catch up but crashed again. Out front. Duncan cont inued to dominate and bro ugh t in the checkered. Jones wa s second, a nd Hazel thi rd . Marshall Wright got fourth and Forbes fifth. Duncan again got th e hol es ho t as Hazel, Jo nes a nd Wright gave it all they had . Ha zel agai n had some bad luck, crashing in the back sectio n and leaving second place open for Jones. Afte r six laps , it was Duncan in for the overall victo ry while Jones got second with a consis tent 2-2. Hazel finished a third, Wright was fourth, and Stillmock fifth. Results 60: 1. SEPT. 25 O n th e first ni gh t of a tw o-r ace mini-series, Geo rge Ha'm mel rode his Yamaha to two easy wi ns in the 12Scc Beginner C lass at Mountain View MX in Tucso n. The res t of the cJass had mor e of a battle, with Marty Hernandez taking second in the first mota but falling to 10th in the second to fini sh fifth overall. Greg Brydie had his problems in the first mota, finishing 13th but came back strong to take second in moto two , still not enough for a trophy . Shane Anderson an d Ryan Evans never excclIcd bu t were more consistent, going 4-3 and 3-4, respectively for the third and fourth place trop hies. Shane And erson also double-classed , riding well as a 250cc Beginner and winning the first mo to . Andy Bohr was second after a fourthplace start. Bohr came on strong early to take first in the second moto while Anderson fin ished th ird behind John Rogers. Rogers had a slow start in the first moto and worked his way up to fifth place , but the combined scores were enough to give him the third p lace trophy. Bohr 's strong ride in the second mota kept him in front all the way for first overall. The second place trophy went to Anderson. Willie Giroir had his wa y in the Senior class , winning both motos. Carlos Almada was third. Paul Burger Jr . traded wins with Natha n Rivera in the 60cc (9-11) class with Burger coming out on top of the total points tie by winni ng the second moto ove r a consistent Ryan Wilson, . who grabbed a couple of seconds for the night Results 50 BEC: 1.
