About 150 rid ers attended the 20th round of
the Florida Motocross Club Series held at the
Florida Motospo rts Comp le x, where Sea n
Avera sw ep t both 16-24 motos to take the overall win.
When the IS-rider field blasted around the
first tum Jeff Neilander led the way with Avera,
Herschel Auxier, Deric Coin and John Barfield
in pursuit Coin moved by Alixier on the opening lap, as Neilander and Avera outdistanced
the field. Barfield crashed on the third lap, and
Ja son Thomas and Auxier s li p p e d around.
Neilander and Avera battled for the lead until
Neilander bobbled and let Avera into the point
position. Jason Peres charged up through the
pack after falling at the start, and with two laps
to go, motored into fifth. Peres shot by Thomas,
w ho was on an 80cc bike and in another class ,
and closed in on Coin. Two tums from the finish
Peres went around Coin, but Coin stuffed Peres
10 feet before the finish line and knocked him
off the track. The w in w ent to Ave ra over
Neilander, Coin, Peres and Derrick Janusky .
Rain began to fall as the second mo ta go t
underway, bu t that d idn't slow Ne ilande r down
as he too k the ho lesh ot , wi th Ave ra , Peres,
Jam es Joine r and Tho mas givi ng chase. Avera
passed Neiland er in the back section of the track
as Thomas ove rtook Joiner for the fourth spot.
Neilander and Peres cras hed on the second go
round , giving Avera a huge lead over Thomas.
Neilander remoun ted in third place, then experienced bike problems , and Peres took full opportunity o f the situation. Neila nder p ulled off the
track and Thomas's dad helped him fix the b ike
and he reentered the race. Peres closed the gap
on Thomas but ran out of time. Avera took the
