In Junior speedw ay's first di vis ion it was Steven Downing over Ryan Fisher and in second di vision, Jimmy Fishback bested Pa trick Donovan. Swain swipes Kansas MX win By Lee Coffman WFSlMORELAND, KS,AUG.8 36 Gene Swa in came back from a first mot o defeat to pos t the overall win in the 12Sec Expert class at Northeast Kansas MX. A record break in g exp e rt turnout th rilled spectators as they watched Suzukis take the cash in the 125cc Exp ert class. Chris Hunter pulled the ho leshot in the first moto only to fight to get the checke red flag as Swain stayed close behind awa it in g a n y opportuni ty to get by . Sw ain swi tched position s w ith Hu nt~r early only to settle for second place as Hunter rega ined his first pla ce position late in the moto. In an exciting sec on d mot o it w as Swain, Marty Cason , and Hun ter through the fllSt tum as H un ter bobbl ed out of control an d spec tators bra ced themselves for the w or st. Instead he regained contro l and cha sed Cason thro ugh the w hoops and pa sse d on the inside for second po sition. Cason fo ugh t hard to h old off Jaso n Kellogg until Ca son ' s front w heel mi ssed the berm giv ing Kellogg the opportuni ty he'd been waiting for, Ca son and Kellog g rac ed side by side as they entered the whoops section and it wa s just a maller of who could hold the gas on thro ugh the whoo ps. Co ming ou t of the whoops it was Kellogg with a sligh t lead over Cason as Cason rode fast and hard ho pin g to regain his p o sition to no avail. Sch nab el we re poe try in motion in th e 500cc final Saturday n ight at · Aztalan Cyde Park's third short track of the season. Zum took the win by a wheel len gth over Schnabel in one of the most exCi ting races of the evening. Over 150 riders were trea ted to excellen t racing from which Bob Ybema emerged as the big money winner in the Pro class an d Timmy Huss was the evening's on ly d ouble dass winner taking the victories in both the 60ee and SOee Senior dasses. Zurn began ti,e evening by takin g a second in h is h ea t behind David C a r tw righ t. Mi ke Ybema an d J.R. Schnabel both took relative ly easy win s in their SOOee hea ts giving lillie ind ication of wha t w ou ld d evelop later. Charlotte Wald ebuess er took the first semi win, and Bill Stornello cap tured semi n umbe r two. _ . ~ In the fmal, Zum gra bbed the early lead wi th Schnabel, Greg Norwicki an d Steve Forrest in tow. As Schna bel wo rked on Zurn , Forr est slid into the third spo t when Norwicki drifted high PERRIS. CA, AUG. 14 Matthew Clark delivered a crushing blow to the Pee Wee competi tors by pos ting wins in thr ee of the four motos he en tered , and scoring over all w in s in both Pee Wee St ock an d Pee Wee Modified Nov ice dasses d uring round eight of the GFI "Win a Truck" night series held at Perris Racewa y. Justin Lavoie pu shed his PW50 to the holseshot in the first Pee Wee Modified Novice race but we n t a bi t w ide in the first tum. With the door .w ide open both Clark and Justin Munyon slipped into fllSt and secon d pla ce whil e Lavoie labored in third. Clark wa s riding an aw esom e ma ch in e and si mply roos ted awa y fr o m Munyon. Lavoie got a free tick et in to second pla ce when Munyon ran into a lapped rider and cras hed near the end of the moto. When the checkered fla g wa ved it w as a landslid e r un away v ictory for Clark. Lavo ie rode smoo thly the remainder of the race and wa s rewa rd ed w it h th e r unn er ~ u p p osi tio n w hile CharlieJenkins cha rged from nearl y last to third in front of Ricky Olive r, Justin Wilson and Mun yon . The second mota saw Clark once again ou t fro n t w it h Lavo ie tagg in g a long in se co n d. Munyo n didn't run anyone over this mot o, and eve n tually fin ishe d third behind Lavoie and double moto winner Clark. Cla rk came back later in the night to top the firs t Stock dass moto after a hea ted battl e wi th And y Pierce. Kevin Folgheraiter race d doseiy with Mun yon for third wi th Folgheraiter getting the call at the finish. Munyo n wa s uns toppable in the all impor tan t second mo to and simply mo tored away for the w in. Clark sta rted d ead last and spent the entire race carvin g his way through the pac k where he even tually finished third behind Pier ce and moto winn er Munyo n. . Ty Kad y scored the l 25ee Intermed iate victory after tw o heated battles w ith Mike Ulrich . Ulrich hol esh ot the first moto then held off a moto-Iong d u rge pu t forth by Kady to post the w in. Ulrich set the pa ce in the secon d moto with Kady again brea thing fire from second . Kad y wou ld not be d enied the victory and even tually ousted Ulrich from the lead an d went on for the overall victory.
