convincing manner. Buzz Arndt enjoyed similar
success. The 52-year·youn g veteran ran away
with the 50+ class, then went on to win the 250cc
Vintage main starting from the penalty line.

Charlie ltalia handled the Youth class on his
modified SOccYamaha with new racer Tommy
Rohn on a Ho nd a finishing second after leading
ea rl y. Steven H ayes finished third on a stock
Yamaha 50.
In speedway action it was Scotty Brown taking both the Scratch and Handicap wins. In the
Scratch main it wa s Brown all the way with Pat
Reyn olds and Mark Maurer in purs uit. Jeff
Tre tera ma de the main , but dropped out early.
As u sual the Hand icap ma in provided the
exciteme n t as Brown had to cha rge from the
middle of the back straigh t to pa ss Pat Reynolds
on the last lap of the g-Iap race . Mar k Maurer
came off the 40 and w as lea d ing by lap th ee, .
looking for his second win in a row. Reyno lds
started from tum thee andslipped by Maurer
with fo ur laps to go. Brown was having a
tougher time with traffic than Reynolds, but was
on his tail with three laps to go. Brown mad e
his move to the insid e as they hi t turn one the
last lap and went on to capture his first double
main event wins of the year.

Jamie Inch slimmed down the Ll -rider main
event holding off a lo-lap challenge from Kenny
Arnold to top the sho rt track event a t Bear Creek
Speedway.
Inch, in only his second race at Bear Creek,
had the competition covered with two heat wins
and a good main event dual with Arnold. Lenny
Umpleby joined three former fea ture winners in
pursuit of Inch as the front five pulled out from
the pack. Arnold could close in the corners and
pull alongside, but once Inch rolled on the throttle , the straights w ere his. Inch show ed great

Ted Scruggs held off a charging Bart Bast to win
his first Handicap main event in front of a cheering Fast Fridays' aowd at Auburn Speedway,

times, eventually ending up star ting from the 60.
Scruggs went into the comer first wi th Grant
right alongside him. The y bumped each other
several times as they went thro ug h the comer,
bu t both were able to stay upright. Scruggs came
out of the comer first to maintain the lead . As
they started Lip three Bast , Busby and Marcucci
came acro ss the line three abreast with Scruggs
an d Grant still out in front. As they went in to
the ro m er Marcu cci slid wide and Busby pas sed
putting him into th ird . In the next ro mer Grant
bo bbled. allo wing both Busby and Bast to pa ss
fo r seco n d and th ir d behind th e still-leading
Scruggs. By the start of the w hite flag lap , Busby
and Bast we re gaining on Scroggs. Bast go t a
good drive and passed Busby to take second .
Scruggs was able to withstand the pressure Bast
put on him and held on for the win. Bast took
second and Busby came in thir d .
Uning up for the Scratch main we re To m
Hedden on the pole, Jesse Ochoa in the number
two spot, Dustin Schroeder in the third gate and
Bart Bas t on 'th e outside. In the first corner
Hedden, Schroeder, and Och oa all tried to p u t
their motorcycles in the same place. All three
crashed, causing a restart,
O n the restart, Ochoa took the lea d with
Schroeder and Bast right beh ind him. Bast was
able to pass Schroeder on the back straight to take
second place behind Ochoa . Ochoa led until the
very last comer when Bast was able to get alongside him. Ochoa drifted wid e in the comer giving
Bast the opportunity to pass for the win . Ochoa
was second ahead of Schroeder and Hedden.

returned to Speedwa y USA for a full slate of racing Saturday nigh t. An d for th e seventh time
this season it was Bobby Schwartz riding aw ay
