AHRMAlVinlage Iron N ational MX Series: Round 11 Ho hot at Glen Helen intageMotocross V By M att Hilgenberg SAN BERNARD!.L\lO, CA. JULY31 ith the thermometer over the century mark, the weather was hot at Glen Helen OHV Park this weekend, but not as hot as Maico rider Ed Ho, who won the 500cc Expert and 30+ Expert races at the first-ever southern California National MX event for the American Historic Racin g Motorcycle Assn . (AHRMA ). Prese n ted by Motolink, the race was held on Glen Helen's "back track," and played host to 248 entries from 10 states. While the tempera ture was very hot, at least th e smog level was reia tively low for a n area that is of te n heavily smog-laden in th e su m mertime. The facili ty wa s bein g sha re d on the day wit h a mod em -bike MX on the "front" track, so the pits we re quite congested, and the water truck was having to work overti me to service both circui ts. Halftime entertainment came courtesy of Vintage Iron and AHRMA, as many of the motorcycling industry's finest were inv ited to ride a one- mo teonl y event to experience what vintage motocross is all about . Each entrant paid $50 to rid e, and the money went into AHRMA's Benevolent Fund, wh ich aid s injured AHRMA members. Although th e ev en t wa s not a ra ce, the rid ers seemed to treat it like one, with Answer Products' Bryar Holc omb cro ssing the finish line first aboard a Honda CR250. In the 30+ Expert d ivision, Ho had to contend with Klemm Research' s John Greenway, who won the opening moto aboard a Honda CR250. Ho trailed in second, ahead of fe llow Maico rid e r Lillevig and Cl a ri o n Mike Construction's Kelly Owen. Mot o two had much the sa me resu lts, only this time, Ho ma ngaged to take the checkered flag ahead of Green way to earn the over all . Lillevig and Owen were once again third and fourth. Kawasaki of Simi Valley -sponsored Ho h ad an ea s ier time in the 500 cc Expert class, sweepi ng both moto wins over Lillevig; Husqvama-mounted Rick Lundgren went 3-3 for third.
