Chris Thom pson mad e good use of a coup le of
goo d s ta r ts to win bo th mot os in th e Mini
Beginner class at the CRC MX on the Fourth of
jul y at Los Angeles County Racew ay.
Ge o rg e La Monte wa s a t th e fro n t of th e
pack a t the start of the first Mini Beginner mota,
ahead of Thom pson, Jus tin Robin son and James
Ne wma n . By th e co mpl e t io n o f t h e fir s t
lap , Thom pso n had overtaken Lalvlonte for the
lead . Whil e Thom pson cont inu ed to lead u p
fro n t, a battle de velo p ed between LaMon te
and Robinson ove r se con d p lace. Robinso n
spe n t almost th e en tire mo ta ca mped ou t on
LaM on te' s rear fend e r, loo kin g for a w a y
a rou nd . He nev er found it and LaMo nte took
second behind Thom pson.
The seco nd mot o was a rep eat of the firs t

Robi nso n gated in th ird b ut overshot a comer
and wen t down d ropping to fifth. laMonte was
keepi ng Th o mpson w ithi n strik ing dista nce
until tw o lap s from the end when he tan gled
wi th ano the r rider and crashed . Tha t enabled
Th omp son to op en up a 20-second lead by the
finish . Robinson slipped past laMonte before he
got up to speed to take second in the moto and
second ove ra ll.

Ma la n ben e fit as he led all the way in both
mo tos . Mike Crosby gated b ehi nd Ma lan
in th e fi rs t mot o a n d applied pressu re th e
en tire race, but had to sett le for second . Scott
Minste r and Shawn O'Brien argued over third place until O'Brien had his front end wash out
w hic h dro pped h im to s ix th a t th e midway
poi n t. Dann y Woodard worke d up from a
bad sta rt to g ra b t h ird p lace from Minste r
wit h a cou p le of laps remaining. O'Bri en wa s
flyi ng a n d h e ma naged to ge t ar o u n d both
Minst er and Wood ard for third by the checkered
flag.
Malan led eve ry la p o f the se co n d mo to
and took the win going aw ay. Wood ar d got a
be tte r sta rt this tim e an d was hold in g off Ken
Re ed for se co n d , wh il e M inster, w ho was
fou rth, had h is hands full wit h Crosby look ing
for a wa y a rou nd. Cros by found a way in a
lon g sweeper and joined Wood ard a nd Reed in
the batt le for second place. A lap late r Crosby
went down in that same swee pe r mak ing it a
two ri d e r dice on the las t la p . Reed gave it
everything he had but came up 10 fee t short at
the finish beh ind Woodar d . Wood ar d 's 5-2 finishes jus t edged ou t Minster 's 4-4 sco re for second ov erall. .
