EVENTS Lendon Smith (355) and Brian ElIiott (10) had a mid air battle at Perris Raceway. Cycle/Mission Yamaha-backed rig sna tched victory away at the chec kered flag. Dirk Gard ner and Doug Lynch were third . Angela Hale proved she 's fully recovered from her broken ankle as she ran away wi th the Support ma in. Fifteen-year-old Joe Rya n p icked up the lead and kept it to the finish for s the win. Dav id H ughe took second wit h Jason Fields, Dan Finch and Chris Meyer roun din g out the top live. Rookie pro rid er Larry Linkogle tu rned a lot of head s by putting a hu rt on the 250cc Pro class. Linkogle too k advantage of two ho leshots, lirst loppin g Brian Myerscough an d Mike Metzger in the first moto . Linkogle return ed to lead most of the second mo to, but gave wa y to Metzger in the late stages of the race. Metz ger won the moto but Linkogle took the overall win by virtue of a more consis ten t set o f motos. Donald Up ton was I"'rhaps the fastest rider 01 the nigh t but a seized engine kep t him out of t he 250cc Pro class co m pe ti tio n. Ho w e ve r, Up ton sh ined in the 125cc Pro class, pos ting a do uble moto sweep of the cla ss o ver Jimm y Lavorci and Steve Andrich. The second moto was almost a repeat of the lirst go, but m idway throug h the live-lap race, Wh ite took a soil sam p le as he p ressured lead er Bright. The co nfron ta tion opened the d oo r for Niva who moved into the lead in one qu ick blast th a t w ou ld h ol d till the c h ec ke red lIag. Manus uthakis moved into third as Bright recove red to main tain second as White fell ba ck to fou rth . Bright' s 1· 2 mo to tally ea rned him the overall victory over Niva, Manusuthakis, White and Mike Siero.
