Mike Kiedrowski (3) chased Jeff Stanton (1) in the second mota and caught the champ. lap. Cooper finished ninth, just ahead of KIM's Oiff Palmer. The second moto came down to a two-man show between Stanton and Kiedrowski. Stanton grabbed the holeshot just inches ahead of Kiedrowski and the two riders quickly pulled away from the rest of the pack. Never more than three seconds separated the two throughout the entire moto. Kiedrowski waited until the 20minute mark before making his move. "I didn't want to eat his roost like 1 did in the first moto, so 1 hung back just a little bit farther than 1 did in the first moto," said Kiedrowski. "Then we started getting into lappers and 1 could see that he was making some mistakes, so 1 made my move." Kiedrowski dove to the inside of Stanton and out-ran him to the next turn. Stanton fought back, however, and chased Kiedrowski down to the last turn. But the Kawasaki rider hung on to take the checkered flag inches ahead. "He (Stanton) put up a tough fight," said Kiedrowski. "We even bumped into each other near the end." To prove his point, Kiedrowski showed off a big red mark on his chest. "That was his handlebars," said Kiedrowski. While Kiedrowski and Stanton dueled up front, laRocco made up for a ninth-place start and had control of third by the end of the fifth lap. At the end of the race, he was running all alone in the show spot, while Dowd, after a midpack start, had worked his way up through the pack and into fourth. Lamson finished fifth after an eighth-place start. Lawrence again finished sixth ahead of Cooper, McElroy, Palmer and William Dzielak, riding a Manchester (Connecticut) Honda-backed CR250. Bradshaw, who at one point ran as high as fourth, crashed and eventually faded back to 11th a few seconds ahead of Palmer. 125cc National Team Yamaha's Doug Dubach got the ball rolling in the first 12Sec moto. He nailed the holeshot and led for four laps before getting passed by both Lusk and ~ Henry on the same lap. Circulating near the back of the pack were many of the division's top riders, including McGrath and defending champ Emig. McGrath had been involved in a first-turn pileup,. while Emig was taken out by another rider down the start chute. Team Kawasaki's Mike Craig was another rider running toward the rear, as were Team Hot Wheels/Pro-Circuit/Kawasaki rider Jimmy Gaddis and Honda of Troy Racing's Johnny O'Mara, the 1983 125cc National Champion. O'Mara pulled out of the race early on and called it a day, still bothered by a recent foot injury. Meanwhile, up front, Henry began stretching out his lead over Lusk, who likewise was pulling away from Dubach. Kawasaki Team Green's Scott Sheak was all alone in fourth, while ProCircuit/Suzuki rider Larry Ward cruised in fifth, a safe distance ahead of Honda of Troy Racing's Erik Kehoe. Henry went on to win the moto, finishing approximately eight seconds ahead of runner-up Lusk. Dubach was a distant third, and Sheak came home a safe fourth. Ward held on to fifth ahead of Kehoe and Great Britain's Jamie Dobb, who was riding on the Hot Wheels/Pro-Circuit/Kawasaki team. Hughes finished eighth, while Honda of Troy Racing's Todd DeHoop and Suzuki's Damon Huffman rounded out the top 10. Emig came back from his crash to finish 14th, one position ahead of Suzuki's Denny Stephenson. Craig finished 16th; McGrath 23rd and Gaddis 24th. Emig snared the holeshot in the second moto but was no match for Henry, who blew past the Yamaha rider on the second lap, and never looked back. Henry stretched out his lead to approximately five seconds, which he maintained throughout the race. Emig, McGrath and Ward duked it out for the second through fourth spots the entire moto. Ward eventually passed McGrath near the halfway point and would pressure Emig for second place Another local favorite Doug Henry dominated the 125cc class by winning both motos. Doug Henry (16) passes defending champ Jeff Emig in the second 125cc mota. 13
