SOUTHWICK, MA, MAY 2
eam Kawasaki's Mike Kiedrowski
and Team Honda's Doug Henry
shared the spotlight by recording
overall victories on the notoriously
tough and challenging Motocross 338
race track at Southwick. Kiedrowski outlasted the defending champ, Team
Honda's Jeff Stanton, to score the 250cc
National class win, while Henry simply
blew everybody away in the 12Scc
National division.
Kiedrowski's win in the 250cc class
was a hard-fought affair. Stanton nipped
Kiedrowski at the finish line in the first
3(}minute plus two-lap 250cc moto, but
in the deciding second moto, Californian
Kiedrowski chased down Stanton,
passed the Michigan rider with five laps
to go and out-rode the reigning champ
in a sprint race to the checkered flag.
Kiedrowski crossed the finish line less
than a second ahead of Stanton on his
Shane Nalley-tuned Kawasaki KX25O.
"Beating Jeff (Stanton) is a victory in
itself," said Kiedrowski, the two-lime
125cc and reigning National 500cc MX
Champion. "It was a tough race and I
just had to hang on harder."
"Mike rode one hell of a race," said
Stanton. "He came from behind and got
me. It was quite a race."
Both Kiedrowski and Stanton rode
away from the rest of the pack in each
moto, as they hammered -on each other
lap after lap on what many riders claim
is the toughest and most physically
demanding track on the circuit.
Finishing third overall was Kiedrowski's
teammate Mike LaRocco, who tallied
consistent 3-3 moto finishes. Privateer
John Dowd, the local favorite from
Chicopee, Massachusetts, finished fourth
overall with 4-4 moto finishes aboard a
Kawasaki KX25O, while Team SuzuJ
