Leivan brought his Yamaha around to finish fourth overall, while KTM-mounted'Terry Gilliland passed Rusty Reynaud on the last lap to claim flfth overall. First place in the Intennediate class went to Chris Huff, who put his Yamaha out front on the second-to-last lap, when he passed the leader, Dwight Maggard on the gnarly uphill. The 250Cc class winner, Allen Haynes, rode with the handicap of 11 stitches in two of his fingers from a mishap the previous evening. He put his Yamaha in the lead on the second lap and held it there until the final lap, when he was stuck in a tree with second-place rider, Rodney Oller. Haynes broke free first and went on to take the wIn. Joe Beaver stormed ahead of the 200cc class at the start and fInished with a five-minute cushion and the first-place trophy. David Wilfong was the 125cc class wInner, leading from start to finish. Dan Johnson grabbed the lead on the second lap and was the only one in his class to go five laps, snaring the Open class win. APR. 11 Over 200 riders showed up to compete at round six of the Florida MX Club Series, held at Motocross of Marion County, and Gene Naumec topped the 250cc A class field with 1-3 finishes. When the gate dropped for the first moto, Josh Latina rocketed into the lead with Brian Swink, Jeff Lampe, Naumec and Jon Ortner in tow. Naumec passed Lampe on the opening lap and Swink did the same to Latina to take over the lead. Latina retaliated, though, and' retook the lead a few turns later. Swink charged hard and. attempted to overtake Latina in a tight tum, but instead collided with the rear of Latina's machine and the two riders became entangled. Naumec roosted past Swink and Latina while they struggled to untangle their machines. Naumec went on to score an uncontested win aboard his Fox/Shoei/Scott/Dunlop/NStyle/Motul/Enzo Racing/Performance Engine/On the Line/FMF/White Bros./BSYsponsored Yamaha. Ortner, Lampe and Latina followed him across the finish lIne. Swink did not fInish the race, due to a broken throttle housIng. Swink burst Into the lead at the start of the second moto ahead of Ortner, Latina, Naumec and Lampe. Swink quickly began to pull away, while the rest of the riders battled over second. At the halfway point, Swink held a commanding lead and Latina jammed into second.
