McCormick takes LACR MX
By Scott Hoffman
PAlMDALE. CA. APRIL 11
The Easter Bunny must have been good to Brian
McCormick, as he topped the 125cc Beginner
class during California Racing Gub's motocross
held at Los Angeles Counly Raceway.
Holeshot king Mike Odom grabbed the early
lead with Tony Green and Dennis Woodard
right on his tail. Following the first lap, Odom
was passed as Green flew by for the lead.
Suffering from a poor start, McConnick began to
make an assault on the leaders, picking off riders one by one. By lap four McCormick had·
worked his way up to the fourth spot, and proceeded to apply pressure to third-place rider
Woodard. McCormick came within striking distance, but almost went down attempting the
pass. McCormick finally made the pass, but time
was running out as there was only two laps
remaining.
Going into the last lap, the action started to
heat up. Odom felt the heat first. Odom held
second position the entire race, but McCormick's
determination was too muCh for Odom to handle. McCormick made the pass and set his sights
on the leading Green. McCormick reeled in the
slowing Green, but time had run out to make
the pass. At the finish, Green held on for the
lead, with McCormick and Odom in the runnerup positions.
Between motos, McCormick must have
found the golden egg because in the second
moto he wasted no time getting past holeshot
specialist Odom. and pulling away from the
field. From that point on the race was for the
second spot. After the first lap, Green found
himself in the fourth spot following Woodard.
By the second lap, Green made the pass for third .
and started to close the gap on second. Green
started to knock on the door of Odom, but
Odom wouldn't answer. The two riders began
to pound each other, with neither willing to give
an inch. The pressure finally got to OdolI\, and
Green made a pass that stuck. At the finish
McCormick cruised across the line for the win,
Green and Odom following behind..
Other holiday action saw the Lindstrom
brothers, Karl and Erik, put on a show during
the 250cc Intermediate race. Karl won both
motos, but not until his brother put up a ftghl
The two riders battled as if they :were strangers;
each and every lap they were at each other like
dogs on meat. When the food was gone and the
dust setOed Karl came out on top with Erik following, Robbie Dunham rounded out the third
spot.
