REVENTS The site of the first hard split provided an incident that earned 17-year-old 0Un0 HiJls resident Jeff Wynn with one of the three awards given at dinner Saturday night. Wynn was riding with his neighbors Jim and Jaclcie Nicholson and Jaclcie's brother, Mike Burgi. When Jackie took a wrong tum on her Honda XR2OO, Burgi set out to track her down. Just as Burgi, 30, of Lakewood, was getting back to the course, Wynn rode up the trail looking for him and the two Suzu1ci RM2SO pilots met. "I turned to go up and Mike was going down," Wynn said. "He hit sand and his Iront tire slid and he fell over. Before I could do anything I ran over him.,. Wynn's trip over Burgi's shoulder merited him the -Charles Manson Award" for running e down his friend. Vann Gibson (22) led from start to finish in both +30 A class motos at nevil's Ridge. Neese evil at Devil's Ridge MX By Jim Rice Photo By Stacy Thomas SANJQRD, N.C. APR. IG-Il Jim Neese won the 125 and 250cc A Modified classes at Devil's Ridge MX Parlc. where conditions on the first day were muddy after an inch and a half of rain the night before. The flI"St moto started with Bobby Stovale pulling the holeshot and leading the race ahead of Neese, Todd Bennick and Troy Brewer. Stovale tried to clear a long double and came up short. going down hard and knocking the wind out of him. Bennick pulled into the lead, with Neese and Brewer right on his tail Bennick fell and Neese and Brewer powered past him. Bennick chased down Brewer in two laps and passed him in a set of doubles, but Neese had a good lead and scored the moto win. In moto two, Bennick got the holeshot and held Neese off for half the race, while Stovale went down hard. Brewer passed him'to pick up third. Neese rode to the I-I win. Bennick posted a 2-2 for second place, and Brewer was third. The 12Scc A Modified class was about the same, including crashes by Stovale. Neese again earned the overall win. The Horton brothers, Richie and Robbie, collected wins in three different divisions. In the 12Scc B class, Richie Horton put together 2-1 motos, while he used a perfect 1-1 tally to nab the overall in the 125cc (12-15) division. In the 85cc (12-13) Stock class, Robbie Horton posted 1-1 finishes for the overall win, despi te tough competition from Amber Hughes. Results SAT 51 STK: 1. A.uan Wdlia (Yam); 2.j«Ob Fumaot(Yam). I.
