Shawn Kalos swept both 50llec Pro class motos
at Blythe Raceway in the seventh ro und of
the CMCI Arizona Copper State Classi c Series.
Scon Days' lead in mota one was short-lived
as Kalos blasted from midpad around Rex
Staten and Willie Surratt before relieving Days
of his position. As Kalos widened his lead,
Staten a nd Surratt put Days bad into fourth
place the n began their own battle for second.
The game of tag resulted in Surratt catching
Staten in a comer to power by Staten in to
a comfortable second-place finish.
-Mo to two saw Kalos p ull the lead as Staten
moved up an d stole second from Days. Surratt
wasn't far behi nd and soon moved in to
position to cha llenge Staten. This time Sta ten
wasn't giving up a ny ground as several
attempts by Surratt proved futil e and Staten
took the checkered for second beh ind Kalos.
In the 250cc P ro class, Surratt trailed Kalos
in the first half of moto one until Kalos
crashed and Surratt was off with Iirst, Before
Kalos cou ld recover, J immy Button has also
blown by to step into second place. By the
time Kalos was bad in action too much time
had ela psed and Kalos took the checkered in
third behind Surratt and Button,
In moto two, Surratt sho t into the lead with
Button in second, Kalos sat on the line until
last, then began moving through the pad of
fourteen combined Intermediate and Pro class
riders. By the end of the second lap, Kalos
was breathing down Buttons' neck . Then
Surratt felt the heat as Kalos moved in and
passed. on the inside of a tur n and was gone
for the win .
In the Vet Junior class, Craig Pipp in came
up fast after a crash on leader Mark Fitzgerald,
The two riders then ba ttled right down to the
last tu rn whe n Fitzgerald 's H on da stalled and
Pippin cruised in for the win.
The second malo saw Beaver get the
hol eshot and lead until midrace when he was
surrounded by Pippin and FiugeraId Beaver's
block was to no avail as Pippin and Fitzgerald
moved in to first and second with Pippin
holding th e lead for first overall. Bret Boyd
scrambled togain ground after a bad start and
passed Beaver in time to fini sh third.
