GM OSS AMA National Cham~ionshi~ 125/500cc MX Series: Rounds 10/3 orDeR e .Jeff Emig (18) was the early leader in the second 125cc moto before getting passed by seri es points leader Kiedrowski (4). . , After scoring his second 500cc National win of the year at Binghamton, Bayle let the champagne fly from the announcer's tower at the awards ceremony. 14 Kiedrowski held on to the lead until the third lap when LaRocco outbraked him on one of the many Broome-Tioga downhills. LaRocco, Kiedrowski and Cooper soon pull ed away from McGrath, then LaRocco and Kiedrowski broke away from Cooper as they engaged in what would wind up being a dogfight to the finish. The two riders were never separated by more than a few bike lengths, excep t when neg o.tiating lapped traffic, most of whi ch happened late in the moto. LaRocco eventually took the checkered flag just a few seconds ahead of Kiedrowski, while Cooper faded back to finish approximately 45 seconds behind the Kawasaki rider. JUSt under 30 seconds later came a heated battle for fourth , fifth and sixth among McGrath, Suzuki's Denny Stephenson, Emig and LaITy Ward. When the dust had cleared, Stephenson had crashed ba ck to seventh, while Emig and Ward shot by McGrath for fourth and fifth . Rounding out the top 10 were T eam Peak/Honda's Brian Swink, Suzuki's Tallon Vohland and privateer-Honda rider Mike Brown from Gra y, Tennessee. Emig gated perfectly in the second moto , but Kiedrowski , Ward and LaRocco were ready to pounce. The Yamaha rider held the reins for two laps before Kiedrowski out-jumped Em ig and assumed the lead. At the same tim e, LaRocco put the inside move o n Ward for third, making the top five Kiedrowski, Emig, LaRocco, Ward and Vohland; Cooper was sixth. While LaRocco desp erately searched for a line around Emig, Kiedrowski was pu tting val uable spa ce between himself and the rest of th e · pack. Unfortunately for Kiedrowski, it was all for nothing when he crashed at the same time as LaRocco motor ed by Emi g. All of a sudden, LaRocco found himself out in front and pulling away from Em ig. Kiedrowski eventually worked hi s way back into second, but by that time the damage was done LaR occo now enjoyed a 15-second lead on .the Kawasaki rider. " I kind of wish he (Kiedrowski) didn 't crash," LaRocco said. " I wanted 10 see if 1 cou ld' ve caugh t up to him on my o wn." La Rocco easily won th e mot o over Kiedrow ski and Emig, wh o survived a late-m ote cha lle n ge by Cooper. Cooper, with two laps to go , was abo ut to put the move on Emig wh en he hi t a bump and swapped off the track, losin g valuable tim e o n th e Yamah a rider. " I thou ght 1 had him ," said Coo per. " He (Emi g) had the smooth lin e, 1 had the ro ug h line, th en wh am-ol That was it." Cooper had to settle for fourth, safely ahead of Vohland and Ward. McGrath, Down ers Grove Yamah a-b acked Doug Henry, Kawasaki's Tyson Voh land an d Barr Competition/Scott/SO CALbacked Barry Carsten rounded out the top 10. CN Results 125 QUAL I : I.
