Frenchman Bruno Camozzi (Fan) won round eight of the World Championship Observed Trials Series in Piesting, Austria, June 30. World Champion Jordi Tarres (Bet) fin ished second and Diego Bosis (Fan) was third. Tarres leads Bosis in the point standings, 142-123. Donato Miglio (Apr), who topped Tommi Ahvala (Apr) and Tarres a week earlier in the Polish round, lies third in the standings with 119 points, Ahvala is fourth at 110 points and Camozzi holds down fifth with 92 points. According to the AMA's Roger Ansel, the seventh round of the N a t ional Championship Hare & H o u n d Series in Wells, Nevada, October 20, has been cancelled. The AMA is hoping to replace the Well s-toWendover, point-to-point National with another event at a d ifferen t location, but on the same date. HosPITal Stop: Motocrosser D e nnis Parker, from Las Vegas , Nevada, was serio usly injured in a fireworks accident, July 4. Parker suffered secon d and third degree bums to his face a nd body when he was loading shell s in to a launcher during a fireworks display in Kingman, Nevada, and one of th e shells exploded in his face. Duri ng openi ng ceremonies for the July 14 U.S. 250cc MX G P at Unadilla, Californian Mike Healey refused to join his fellow countrymen under the American flag for the playing of the National Anthem. Healey stood underneath the French flag since he contests the World Championship 250cc MX Series with a French MX Federation license, but when it was pointed out that Americans Micky Dymond, Bader Manneh and Trampas Parker also contested the series with foreign licenses yet stood with the Americans. Healey responded, " Maybe they can put up with the American riders' bullshit." Healey was referring to a local newspaper article that quoted Jeff Stanton as saying that American rid ers who compete in the European GPs are has-beens, "I'd like to see him fork out the money and live in Europe for a year," said Healey. Stanton said that it was a mistake calling the riders has -beens. Attendance was down by 3-4000 spectators at the U.S. 250cc MX GP and Unadilla Pu blic Rela tio ns Manager Frank Gerace attributed the decl ine to hea vy rain in the a rea the day before the event and the ban on camping insti tuted this year. "Ward Ro binso n (the owner of Unadilla) knew th a t th is co uld be the sit uation," said Gerace, referr ing to camping at Unadilla. "But he felt that something had to be do ne to make it safe for everyone." Several cars were des toyed in the Unadilla campgrounds last year. " We' ll do it until people realize this is a family event," Gerace added. To our California readers: ffective July 15, under new state tax laws , signed by Gov. E Stanton at Unadilla. When Mike Jr. fell while leading, his father got so upset he broke the pit board he was using for signals in half. When the younger La Rocco won the race, however , his dad was the firs t to greet him with a handshake and hug. Louisiana's Trampas Parker did not punch 250cc World Champion Alessandro Puzar following a close battle in the first rnoto of the June 30 Belgian 250cc MX GP as was reported earlier. "We had words, but I wasn 't even close enough to strike him," said Pa rker at Unadilla. Michele Rinaldi, Puzar's team manager, confirmed this when he said, "They had a confrontation with much shouting, and Parker used his hands 10 make his point, but he never hit P uzar." Trampas ' Parker, who has lived in Italy for the past several years while contesting the European MX GPs, is ready to come home. " I think next year I'd like to do it differently," sa id Parker. " I' d like to come home and race in the U.S. before going to live in Europe during the GP season." Parker says he plans to purchase some property near his parents' home in Louisiana wh ere he will live with his Italian wife and ch ild. • Motocrosser Ryan Hughes is rapidly re cov ering from the broken wrist which required surgery in May. According to trainer Jeff Spencer, Hughes should return to action by September I. DAK Racing (Suz) won the ' 23rd running of the Ne lson Ledges 24-Hour Endurance race in Garrettsville, Ohio, Ju ly 14. DAK comp leted 1004 la ps in the 24·hour race, to p ping Force Racing (Yam) b y tw o laps. Heschimura Racing (H on) finished third overall in what was the eighth rou nd of th e SBS/ P.M. WERA Endura nce Championship. Mike LaRocco Sr., the mechanicfather of Team Suzuki 's Mike LaRocco, got very emotional during his son 's second-mote battle with Jeff Road racer Tripp Nobles has officially joined th e Atlantic Motorsports Group tea m for the remainder of the 1991 road racing season. Nobles, who currently leads th e AMNCCS Top Expert class, joined the Da ve Sadowski-owned team at the Bra in erd round of th e series in June. Team Ma rlboro R o be rts ' John Kocinski was sentenced to five -days in jail, fined $700, and placed on probation for three years as a result of his arrest following the U.S. GP at Laguna Seca International Raceway in Mo nterey, Cal if o rn i a in April. Although the charges for resisti ng arrest and fleeing an officer were dropped, Koci nski was found guilty of reckless driving. The Modesto, California, resident is scheduled to begin . his jail term on October 3 I , and his three-year probation began immediately, on July 12.
