Lima musing In the Voices section of the July 10 issue, G. Buleca criticizes the move of Bell H elme ts ma n u fac turi ng to ano ther coun try while at the same time ind icating his knowledge tha t th e bikes he rides on and mos t of the related eq u ip me nt an d clothing is foreign in origin. He calls th is move by Bell motivat ed by sou lless greed. T hat's not true; Bell is attem p ting to ma ke a pro fit in the best way possible. Buleca, unless he is independently wealthy, has the best job he can find, with the pay being a large factor in tha t job selection. For enough money, he will change jobs and locations. Does he expect Bell to do less? If he is independently wealthy, has he offered to sub sidize Bell to keep them in the U.S.? Bul eca might consider not using an y helmet at all , just wrapping hi s head with Ameri can-made toil et paper in case there is ever any leakage. F. Paul Russel l, Jr. Inglewood, CA Peak ind ividual I would lik e to publicly thank Ron Wood for fielding the Wood-Rotax team that I was proud to be a part of at th e July 4 Pik es Peak Hillclimb. Ron Wood is a very professional person and we sho u ld be appreciative of h is i nvol veme nt i n o u r spor t. Thanks , Ron , fo r gi vi n g me th e op portun ity to ride the new twin-cam , twin -carb Wood-Rotax. And thanks to all the others wh o hel ped, including my son Rick , who I hope had as goo d a time a t Pikes Peak as I did. Eddie Mulder Canyon Country, CA Coverage of th e Pikes Peak H ill climb can be f o u n d elsew he re in th is issu e . , , Editor. I am writing to express my gratitude to Na tio nal #92, Rodney Farr is, for his generosi ty af ter the Li ma H alf Mile Na tio nal. As a dirt track fan of over 20 years , my firs t favorite race r was Gary Nixo n, and now I take not ice of hi s prot ege, Farr is. I always admired the Bell helm et with th e di stinctive star paint job that th ey both wear and I stopped by after the race to talk with Rodney about it. H e was very receptive and by the time I left he had given me several souvenirs, including the helmet he wore to a hard-fought fourth place finish in the National. In that I'm helmet shopping, you can bet that I'm going to su pport Bell m and the companies " at support dirt tra ck racing and fin e young privateers like Rodney Farris. On another subject, the ESPN coverage with Dave Despain is as good as it gets. But Larry Maiers needs some work as the Lima race announcer. Harley vs. Japan pandering is wearing th in , as the spo rt needs a wide variety of fans to prosper. Also, the juvenile play on Steve Morehead's family name isn't funny and never was. Steve has put more into the sport than about any rid er you can mention and he deserves much bette r. Finally , I wish promoters would bo rrow a page from major leagu e baseball and halt beer sales after a certain point, say th e end of main event qualifyin g. I'd like to bring my kids someday. .
