I EX. o r the second year in a row, T eam Green 's La rry Roeseler scored the overa ll and 250cc class win at th e for -A-riders-only Los Anci anos Motor. cycle Club 's T ecate 250K Enduro. It was also his third Tecate win in the last four years. Roese ler, .who 'was riding with a broken wris t, edged out AMA National Reliability Enduro Champion Dave Bertram by just one point after th e 150-mile-plus, threeloop enduro. The Kawasaki KX250mounted Roeseler dropped a total of 12 po ints to Bertram 's 13. " I was in a lo t of pain ," said Roeseler. " I fractu red my wrist a week ago and it really hurt out there; I reall y didn't think I was going to win. There were sections out there I just couldn't ride aggressively enough, bu t overall I had a great time an d the course was just awesome. T he club did another super job. " "I reall y wanted to win this one," said Bert ra m, who won the Tecate Enduro in 1986. "I haven 't had a wh ole lo t of luck this year, so I wanted to' finish .the year strong. But you have to hand it to Larry, he 's tough to beat . I do n 't mind getting beat by him. " Bertram, who was piloting a 1991 production Suzuki R MX250, was two points down on Roeseler foll owing the first two loops, as the riders came into the famous Mag 7 one-hour lunch break . . In the last section, Bertra m poured on the gas and dropped just one point, which ended up being the lowest score in th e section. However, it wasn 't enough to catch Roeseler, despite th e Kawasaki rider burning a check in the last section. F " I shou ld've had Roesel er," said Bertram . " I missed about four or five checks th roughout th e da y by just a few seconds . I mad e som e mistak es by getti ng caugh t in the dust, in bottl enecks, and I had one guy loop out in front of me on a hill, which cost me one point at the next check . But I'm sure everyone had little problems like I did. " Finishing third overall was KTM 's Jimmy Lewi s. Lewis, who was riding a 125cc mount on min u te one, was hoping to use his early start time to his advantage , hoping th is year's Tecate Enduro would be as dry and dusty as last year's enduro. Although this year's event was fairly dry, dust was n't as much of a factor as last year's enduro. Lewis finis hed three points behind Ber tra m with a score of 16, but claimed the I25cc class victory. Motocrosser Ty Davis surprised a lot of enduro riders with a fourth place overall an d first place in the O pen class performance at Tecate wi th 20 points dropped. Ho wever, his lack of timekeeping experience and, not to men- . rion , timekeepi ng equipment, th warted what quite possibly could've been a first-p lace overall ride for the 125cc Western Regio nal Supercross Champion. Keying off other riders , Davis, who was riding a Honda XR600 four-stroke, was plagued by burned checks and la te points at zeroable checks throughout the enduro.
