..I am going to let him past. We've go t to stop him." Stanton infl icted a significa nt defeat on Bayle in a stra ig ht fight during their heat, but the excitement came with cras hes . Demaria, Vehkonen , Da~e Strijbos and T rag ter cras hed a t the entrance to the tunnel bu t a ll. wa lked away. In the l25cc class Belval and Bruno Guyard had to be reprim anded after the cameras showed their boxing , match in th e tunn el. Belval had centerp unched his French com pa trio t while both were in qualifyin g posi tions. Belval wa s di squalified a nd didn 't appear again. In the last '125cc final , th e French led ' away once aga in but when Via lle and Ob elis co collided while disputing the lead . Everts was there to take over for hi s second win wh ich also clinched the Prince of Bercy title. His way to the front had been made easier as Antunez fell on the first lap and Herring on lap two as he tried to sweep around the leading Frenchmen. Ward, Stanton and Bayle raced clear of th e pack in the final race of the fou rday festival , and they were side by side from turn one to th e second corne r. BayIe was in the worst po sition there and exited fifth behind Demaria and Cooper. Ward had grabbed the adva n - ' tage over Stanton. Demaria soon di sappear ed wh en he crashed, whil e Stanton ra ced past Ward throu gh a series of jump s. Cooper an d Bayle ba ttled u nt il the Frenchman went ahea d in the wh oops, bu t Cooper regained the adva ntage with the faster o utside lin e o ver a series of jumps. By th e th ird lap Bayle had estab-' lished his supremacy over Cooper and set off after th e two Ameri cans. To the ' dismay of th e crowd he cou ld onl y close slightly on Ward, but not at all on Stanton as the Camel Supercross and 250cc Nationa l champ raced away to victo ry. Ward closed on Stanton near the halfway po int, but then Stanton got through tr affic quicker and in th e end Ward had to look over his sho ulder at Bayle who had never given up hope. Dubach pas sed Cooper for fourth and Kiedrowski came close at th e end to pushin g Co oper b ack another position. a Resu lts . , WED N ESDAY 2SO: L j ean- Michel Bayle (Ho n); 2.
