T h in gs are better now: Watercooled engines don 't warp as much as air-coo led ones; cran kcase reed va lves don.'t get rem oved when do ing top-end repairs ; th ere ar e better interference fit s in cri tica l areas , etc. There are so many home mechanics tha t come back after a top-endrepair and just can't figure out why th eir new piston just stuck. I had a dad approach me at the races after his son's bike had seized a new top end in practice. With WD-40 bubbli ng around th e intak e area when we kicked it over I knew he had warped th e reed cage. A tube of silicone glue arou nd the outside and little Junior won h is class.
