focused on the finali sts. Cornell rolled
forward. caus ing the referee to hold the
tapes for a second longer. and as the
ta pes were relea sed all four rid ers
roa red forward, going "into tum one
four ab reast, Gutsha ll had to ease off
a liule, a llowing Diem to take the lead
over Daily. .At the start of lap two,
Dail y began to close on Diem , and was
within striking di stance with a lap and
a half remaining. Diem put his head
down for the last lap to win , with Daily
foll owing for second, Cornell third
and Gutshall fou rth.

took th e overa ll wins in the 125
and 2S0ce Pro classes at round three
of the CMC Trans-Cal Na tionals at
Gl en Helen OHV Park. H icks too k
advan tage of a second rnoto spill by
Cha mberlai n to take the 12Sccoverall,
whi le Chamberlain rode flawlessly to
sweep both motos in the 2SOce class.
More than 400 racers sho wed up to race
on the tra ck that one week earlier had
hosted th e fina l round of th e World
Championship MX SOOcc Grand Prix
finale.

Chamberlain took command of the
first 12Scc Pro moto right from the
start, with Hicks, Tony Amaradio and
Shane Trittler close behind. Chamberlain took advantage of the clear track
ahead of him and began to bu ild a lead
over Hicks. Behind Hicks . Trittler and
Pete Murray were breathing down
Amaradio's jersey, tryi ng to improve
their positions. Amaradio lost control

to fifth . allo wing both Trittler and
Murra y to scoot past. Meanwhi le,
Chamberlain was way ou t from, as he
had established a comma ndi ng lead
over Hi cks. Ch amberlain too k the
checkers ahead of H icks, Trittler, and
Murray.
H icks stormed back with a vengenance in moto two , grabb in g th e
holeshot ahead of SC Takacs, Arna Oll
radio and Chamberlain. Chamberlain
qu ickl y displaced Amarad io , but
misjudged the landin g on a tabletop
and struck a ha y bale. Chamberlain
went down hard and rem oun ted in last
place. Up from. Hi cks cap italized on
Chamberlain 's error and pushed him self to speeds that no one could match.
While Hicks pulled awa y, Amaradi o
and Trittler worked past Takacs and
settled into second and th ird places.
Little did they know that Chamberlain
had set a blistering pace after his sp ill
and was quickly weaving through the
field. Chamberlain closed on Triuler
on lap six of the eight lap moto and
cut to the inside of a tricky turn to
take over third. Chamberlain then
reeled in Amaradio, but ran out of time
before he cou ld challenge the Yamaha
rid er. Hicks took the win, ahead of a
distant Amaradio, Chamberlain and
Trittler. Hicks took th e overall win,
Chamberlain was second and Amaradio earn ed third overall.
Randy Moody ripped out of the ga te
in the open ing 2SOcc Pro moto , bu t
Chamberlain was right in hi s shadow.

leaders' speed, as the two front-runners
bega n to pull awa y. Cham berlain tried
tim e and time again to pass Mood y,
b ut the stu bbo rn Kawasa ki ri der
wouldn 't budge. Fin all y. towa rds th e
end of th e moto Moody left a liule
room on the inside of a tight tum and
Chamberlain struck. Mood y stuck to
the leader's rear fend er waiting for a
chance to retaliate. but lost con tro l of
his bike while exiting a rough uphill
turn . Chamberlain greet ed th e
checkers first, ahead of Murray, wh o
had blitzed through the pack after a
less than desirable start. Pounds and
Wynne fini shed third and fourth, j ust
ahead of Moody.
Chamberlain was set on winning the
concluding moto as he blast ed out of
the gate ahead of Moody. Tracy

out to a sizeable lead. Moody held a

the moto Chamberlain began to cruise.
