first and held the point to the finish despite the desperate attemp ts of the opposition to dislodge him. The first to try was Nicoll , but the KTM rider was th e on ly rid er on Dunlop tires on a track which appeared to favor Pirelli rubber. Nicoll even tually had to ease his pace and ended up third. - T he next man to challenge Geukens was Geboers, but two falls dropped him back to eigh th and he could only regain one p lace, at th e expens e of Kurt Ljungqvist, before the finish. It was the first tim e th is season th at Geboer s hadn't finished in the top five of a rnoto, Finally Thorpe took up the challenge to Geukens, and ma ny times he got alongside but could never get in front, If Thorpe could ha ve passed, the GP would've been his, but he didn 't and the overall went to fou rth-place finis her Martens. lLjungqvist had been another early faller after completing the first lap second to Geuke ns. Ljungqvist was coin ing back stro ng at Mar tens when hi s rear wheel star ted to break up and he n ode a conservative race to finish eigh th. n-Lacher may also have challenged Martens, bu t after 15 min utes he go t track marke r tape in his rear bra ke when he .had to go off line to avoid a fallen ri der. For three laps Lacher rode without the brake, and in this time Rob Andrews passed him for fifth and he couldn't reverse the posi tions before the finish, Rossi was 12th after one lap and rode a steady race up to ninth in the first few.:> laps. But the riders ahead of him were too far ahead for him to challenge and he rode steadily to the finish , always abou t IDO yards ahead of Van der Ven. ~ Malin rode with less enthusiasm than usual for II th after his crashes in practice and the first moto, while Anstie got a flat tire after 35 minutes just after he had worked his way into the points after a bad start, Pantilla also ' got off to a bad start but kept going to finish 15th after a strong ride during the second half CN of the race.
