Hoh reaps Cambridge ST win

The Dirt Track Riders Associati on hosted the
third race of their Saturday Night hart T rack
Series a t Ca m b rid~e Speed way. The tra ck was
in per fect condit io n. and by the tim e the
features bega n a wide groove had come up.
allowing two-line raci ng a ll the way around.
The 250cc flat track class belon ged to
Suburban Cycle Center's Mike Hoh . Hoh
easily won the hea t race, but the ma in was
another story . Tim Gregory stayed low and
Hoh wen t high a nd the two rode elbow to
elbow for the first thr ee laps. Lap four saw
Gregory slip off the gro ove, while H oh
sq uared off the comer, go t a wheel under
Gregory and led the rest of the way to the
checkered flag .
A light rider turnout saw the 250 a nd 500cc
MX and Senior classes combined. Ridin g a
Fealy Racing prepped Kn igh t Yamaha 500,
Minnesota legend Buzz Arndt moved to the
front and was never headed in the heat a nd
the ma in. Roger Fealy fin ished second riding
a Yama ha YZ250. T hi rd went to Kawasak i
mounted Dan Taylor.
The Open flat track class was a wild affair.
The heat race saw A I-Mu th H-D/ Suburban
Cycle Cent er's Mike Hoh take the n ag ahea d
of Larso n's Cycles' Kurt Roelke and Peter
Hook. T en riders lined up for the feature with
Hook and Roelke starti ng a t the exit of turn
four. Hoh j umped into the lead on hi s Harl ey.
Meanwhile. Peter H ook was ridin g the high
side. pic ki ng off ride rs two per comer. By the
eil:h th lap. Hook was pressuring the leader
with Roelke in third. Hoh rode OUI a wild
tank-slapper off turn two and Hook steamed
into the lead. Then. Hoo k's Yama ha stu mb led
as he took the whi te nag and quit on the back
stretch . H oh was leading again but he slipped
wide in tum four and Ro tax -mou rued Roelke
took him by a wheel.
Overall winner Ronald Park (34) grabbed the holeshot in the first 250cc Beginner
moto at the Pacific Coast Championships at Washougal Motocross Park .
. Tim Mertens (53) led the start of the Expert main at the Huron Fairgrounds.
George Ro eder passed him before the finish . Doug Davis (41) finished third.

The fifth a nd final round o f th e 1990
Motocross Northwest Pacific Coas t Cham pionship Series ca rne to a close under sun ny
skies a nd great motocross cond itions.
Series cham p ions were also cro wned thi s
weekend with Kawasaki KXI25-riding Pro
Gra yson Hart putting in two ~rfect races a nd
edging Don Bisceglia for the utle. Scott Steffey
took the measure of the 250cc Pro class via
hi s 2-3 tall y whil e Tony Graves scored the
Series Olampionship with his second overall.
In the 80cc Beginner class 20 riders gated
ror moto number one. Gordon Young got the
jump on the pack leading Jeremiah . Kirkes.
J osh ua Bru"" , Bill Moore and Brock Clark
arou nd the first turn with Casey Nelson and
Brad Stomer close behind. You ng held off
Kirkes for the first two laps. but on lap three
Kirkes got by the early leader and set his sig hts
on the malO win . The man on the move ,
though. was Sloner. as he sliced from midpack to fourth by the mid-point and then held
posi tio n until the flag . Kirkes look a well
deserved win wit h You ng, Bru"". Stoner an d
Moo re rounding ou t the top five.
The second mo to was a Casey Nelson a£fair
all the way as the Kawasaki rider went wireto-wire for the win. but due to Nelson 's firstmota 12th-pia"" finish he only garnered fifth
overa ll. First overall fell to Bru ce as hi s secondro un d runner-up cli nched the overa ll via his
3-2 ta lly. wit h Moore's four th overa ll good
enough to take the series titl e over third·
overa ll finisher Young.
The l25cc Beginners a lso brou ght 20 riders
to the line and with the series titl e up for
grabs it would be an all-ou t battle. Wood la nd
Honda 's Jerem y Porter was the class of the
£ie ld as £ar as moto one was concerned, never
looking back to take an easy win. Jamie Coo k
and Bill Kent took second and thi rd.
The second mo to found Porter at the back
of the pack after the start. leavin l:l the door
wide open for another Honda nder. Scott
Watson, to sco re a popu lar wi n . Mike
Narkiewitz was second while Jamie Cook's
a ll-ou t. last -lap charge to pa ss Bill Kent and
move in to thad gave the Suzuki rider the
overall win . Pro -cali ber's Robert Manuel took
the cham p ionsh ip with his fihh overa ll ,
beating out a ha rd-charging Dawn Piazza,
wh o had major problems, fim shing 14th.
Wayne Johnston looked like the man to beat
as far as the 250cc Beginner class went . With
27 riders lined up, Rona ld Par k go t the
holeshot with Johnston . Russ Thibaut. Greg
Harmon and Randy Moen foll ow ing suit.
Park led joh nston for on ly one lap before the
Ho nda CR250 rider blew pa st and breezed to
the win . Park look ed stro ng with Har mon
thi rd and Jeff Hofenbredl fou rth.
All Johnston ha d to do in the second moto
was finis h ha lfwa y respecta bly to assu re
him self th e series cro wn, a nd alt hough
prob lems dropped h im 10 n inth in the moto,
his fihh overa ll was good eno ugh to take the
titl e. The overa ll win went to Park with his
2-2 tall y. with Moen second and Harm on
th ird .
