John Erdrich (18) came from fifth to win the Heavyweight Supersport class at Blackhawk Farms, then moved from third to first in the Superbike division. Stan Nittiskie (205) held off Mark Gouley (29) to win the 125cc Amateur class at Square Deal Riders R aceway. Jason Full er (207) claimed fifth at the finish. lap Perreault passed Rasmussen to ta ke second a nd o n the th ird lap Reid also sn uck underneat h Rasmussen to tak e third. In turn three o n the th ird lap, Perr eault made his bid for fir st and fo r ced Farl ey o ff the groove. Meanwhile Reid, in third pl ace, overcooked th e corner, slammin g into Far ley and putting both ride rs down. T h is allowed Rasmussen four, Varnes had a wheel len gth lead , bu t Fletch er won th e dr ag race to th e fi nis h line by the proverial whisker. Fletch er 's wi ns i n the 250cc and Open Expert fi n al s we re both ro u ti ne affairs co m pa red to the DFC. In th e 250cc Expert class , Fletcher led all 10 laps. Price stayed with Fletch er to fin ish seco nd. but never mounted a challe nge for th e lead . In th e O pen Expert class . Fletcher again led th e entire race. Price. after an ear ly-race battle with Scott Sn oop, fin ished second with Snoop in third. Duane Veeder got a terribl e start and was in ninth p lace after o ne lap. On a slipperv, grooved track that made passing difficult. Veeder used the outside to pick off riders one by o ne and worked up to fourth. Jay Skidmore grabbed the lead from the start in the Senior A class with Mark Ko rytko wski in tow . While the two riders ran off by th em selves, Rob Bibb ins a nd Norman Lavio lette had a heated, eigh t-la p battle over third p lace. Breu er, on a Yamaha FZR600 , held off Karm until lap four . Karm then got a surprise as his ma ch ine's engine went sour. A lin kage rod had fall en off a car buretor accelerator pump, ruining hi s drive o ut of th e corne rs. Karm then cha ng ed hi s str ategy a nd began to brake deeper and harder in hopes of stay m g with . Erdrich. On the last lap , Karm mad e a wild pa ss en teri ng in turn on e. With his rear tire hov ering ab out 10 in ch es off the tra ck, Karm put a wh eel inside Erdrich , hoping John would not flick his GSXR750 into the corner ear ly. The move worked a nd Karm wen t o n to win . . Earlier, Erdrich rod e his Muzzy R&D/EBC/ Ara i/Ka l·Gard/Wax Shop/Zero G ravityl Kush itani USA/ Body by Northstar ·sponsored Suzuki to wins in Heavyweight Supersporl and ·Su pe rbike. After a lo ng sear ch for an ignition gr em lin, Erdrich ma de o n ly the fina l Sunday morning practi ce session but it turned out that was a ll he needed . In Supersp on, Erdrich got off th e line fifth , by the end of lap one held fourth, and then moved ahead of Matt Sheldon for third ending lap two . Two laps la ter , Erdrich bumped Dave Hansen to third and on th e next lap got by Brady Frey, who tho ught he had an easy win. Erdrich pulled away from Frey for the VIctOry. The Superbike event was almost a repeat with Erdrich working his way up from th ird at th e start. Another double winner on the weekend was MausLOn. Fletcher sweeps SDR ST By T o m Blachek HARPURSVILLE, NY, JULY 21 Jason Flet ch er swe p t th e track cl ean of com pe ti tio n as he won every race he entered at Squar e Dea l Riders Ra ceway. The night almost ended before it began for Fletch er. In his firs l pr acti ce sessio n, Fletcher had to lay his bik e down to avo id a fallen rider. Fletch er hit th e fallen rider's bik e and wa s removed from th e tra ck by a mbul ance. After further exa m ina tio n by th e medi cal team , Fletch er was deemed fit to ride. Six rid ers took to the line for the special DFC for Expert class heat winners: Kevin Varnes read starter Tom Steen perfectly and led th e field through turns o ne and two with Fletcher hot on his hee ls. George Price powered pas t Kenn y Coolbeth on lap two to move into third and join the batt le for the lead. Fletch er and Pri ce tried Varnes o n th e high and low side of th e track for the next two laps, but nei th er rider was able to pa ss. By lap five, Pri ce began to fall off the pa ce as Fletcher increased his pre ssure on Varnes. The last lap saw Fletcher p ut mov es o n Varnes in every tum and three times Varnes held Fletcher off. Pederson pounds Millville MX By Rolfe Otterness MILLVILLE, MN.JULY 1 5 Cha d Ped erson traveled north from hi s home sta te of Iowa to compete successfu lly at the Spri ng Creek Mot ocross Track , where he took th e overall win in th e 250cc A class and a third in th e 125cc di vision. Cory Keene y managed to tak e the win in th e 125cc cla ss while Jay Hoenk topped th e O pen class. Dan Luloff launched into the lead as the gat e dropped for the first 125cc A mo to. Pat Donah o, Mark Rob inson and Keeney were in close p ursuit wi th Pederson 10th at the end of th e first lap . Wh ile Pederson sliced through th e pac k, Donaho sta yed o n Luloff 's tail and took over the lead on the fifth lap. Pederson ' had closed o n th e leaders and a lso go t by L ulo ff, bu t L ulo ff regained th e lead and held off Pederso n in a wild last lap . Su mner ELKHORN, \\1, JULY 9 Ano th er full day of P ro·Am rac i ng in Wiscon sin found itself running head-to·head with th e Amateu r National s, which caused a slightly lower turnout of riders tha n antic· ipated. Nonethel ess, th e riders wh o did show up found th e track surface in peak condition, with several fast lines availab le for th e taking. The difficult part was findi ng th ose lines through a ll the du st. The 750cc Pro-Am cla ss had three heats , each of which sent three riders directly to the main , th e rest to a sem i final. Ro y G en e H art J r. grabbed the holeshot of th e first heat and pulled away to an easy victory over June even t winner R ick Gruber and Steve Champine. who had charged from a last· pl ace sta rt to take th e th ird a nd fina l direct transfer to th e ma in . Hart's time of two minutes, 44.763 seconds was good en ough for th e pole for th e ma in even t. T he second heat saw new ly-crowned State Champion Jim Sumner gr ab the holeshot and begin a six ·lap du el with State Ch ampionship runner·up Bret Beyer . T he two fought tooth and nail. with Beyer al ways within slr iking distance. bUI unabl e to cap i talize on Sumner's few mistakes. " O ne time, he got rea l high in turn two," Beyer recalled. "I thought 'Here' s my chance,' bu t like a foo l, I followed him u p there in th e deep stuff! " Sumner was seen spending mo st of the ra ce frantica lly loo king over his machine as he and Beyer drag· raced down th e straightaways. It seems he tho ug ht he had a flat rear tir e. Su mn er's winning time of 2:57.053 would prove to be second fastest. Dave Durelle, in a pr eview of lh e main event, had to charge back from a di smal sta rt to win heal th ree. Tony Donohue nailed th e holeshot and led lap on e, but Bob Ybema dr ove past out of turn two to ta ke the point
