Mik e Stah lman cam e away with a perfect score
in the 125, 250cc and Open A classes (Mi d west
-Mo tospo rts) at Kahoka, today.
In the fir st 125cc A mot o Ben Heibel took
the holesh ot but went down a few turns lat er
in a slopp y turn , Travis Kobu sh look o ver
th e lead with Dave Brummel in seco nd.
Stahlman was blazing and took everyo ne by
lap two a nd pr oceeded to pull a way from th e
pack for an easy win.

ch all enged. Heibel ro de ha rd i n seco nd , '
keepin g Stah lma n wit hi n sight. Meanwhile,
Kobush ra n back in third a few seco nds beh ind
Heibel. Stahlma n too k the victo ry, whi le
Kobush co llected second overa ll wit h a 2-3
fin ish.
In th e 250cc A class Bru mmel a nd Kobush
ba ttled earl}' in mo to o ne, bu t Sta hlman
q u ick ly fo und hi s wa y around bot h riders in
th e firs t lap to take the lead . Sta h lma n pulled
away, whil e Bru mmel and Kob ush di ced for
seco nd. On lap six Brummel m issed a bi g berm
and found his bik e kn ee deep in a m ud ho le.

ra n seco nd but on th e last lap he cra shed i n

Henphen . It was a close fin ish, but Kob ush
held on for seco nd.
In th e O pen A class Bra d J on es too k th e
hol esh ot , but soon lost ground to Stah lma n
o n th e uphill rockers. Rick Pai ton a lso cha sed
down Jones and too k o ver seco nd place o n
la p two . Stahlman motored in for th e win
With Pa tto n a di stant second.
In molO two Stahlman made it a clea n six motu sweep after laki ng th e lead from Jones
on the first lap and stalli ng his co m pe titio n.

Mik e Varnes an d Eri c Sassaman too k th e 250cc
and Open Expert wins, respec tively, as th e
Fl ying Dutchmen M.e. launched th eir 1990
season with a sho Tt tra ck at Pin e G rove.
Varnes saw his lead at th e sta rt of th e 250cc
Expert fin al red-flagged for a downed rider.
O n th e resta rt, Joe Broml ey grabbed th e lead
fro m Ken Yoder ; Varn es and Gary Clark.
Varnes moved into seco nd o n the next lap
then got by Bromley for th e lead o n the third
,la p a nd sta rted to pull a little d ista nce o n hi s
Penn State Cycles-spo nso red Yamaha. Cousin
Kevin Var nes, Yoder, Clark and T om Daniele
got into a heated bau le for .hird in the middle
sta ges of th e race. Kevin and Yoder then
mowed up to battle Broml ey for second , with
Kevin taking second o n the fin al lap and
Yoder following him.
n ,u the 17 rid ers in the 600cc Expert final
roared out of the . du sty second turn, Eric
Sassaman grabbed the lead from Kevin Varnes,
Mike Varn es and Steve Burkh o lder. Kevin
,dr o p ped several places as he just escaped a
tank-dapper. Mike went into second, while
Tom Daniele and Burkh o lder battled over
th ird 10 the chec kers. Kevin regr o u ped to
fin ish fifth .

w ilson quickl y put some d ista nce over Jim
Suuer, Pa ul Shoe ma ker and Wayne Franklin
as the Sen ior class roared. do wn the bac k
straight, Throughout the fin al, Heberl ing led
with eit her Hill ard o r Wilson righ t behind
him. As lht.1' entered the first turn o n the fina l
lap, \Vilso ll dov e und er Heberli ng". ta kin g th e
lead. Hill ard a lso got by in the opening.
Ricky winseu jumped o u t to a big lead 3 '
the start of the co mbined 85cc fina l, as his
main co m pe titio n a nd beat winner, T odd
\Vinseu , sta lled at the line. Paul Lynch . Jere
Alexander and Jo h n w in sen ba n led o ver
seco nd. Alexander took o ver second at the end
o f ' he Iirst lap, on ly to fall on th e next lap .
Ry th e halfway po int , Todd had wo rked his
way into seco nd abou t a straight behind his
cousin.

in th e 250cc Amat eu r final. As th ey began the
second la p. Eisinger a nd Au ngst moved past
Puj o l as ' hey batt led for th e rem ainder of th e
race over second , while Snoop wo n easi ly.
Snoop and Ro bert Roo sa were in from of
the Open Ama teurs on bo th sta rts, with Sco tt
Harper , Ron Baer and Tom Hannum Iollo wing o n the officia l o ne. After anothe r of h is
typica l lo usy sta rts, Phil Libha rt moved up
to fourth by th e end of th e fourth lap, but
by then th e o nes in front had ' 00 mu ch of
a mar gin to dem o
Mike Sta h lman (119) won all si x A-class motos at Mid west Mo tosports MX.
Here, he chases third-place finisher Brad Jones (453) during an Open A start.
Steve Wil son (3N) caught and passed Joe Heberling (57H ) and Harold Hillard
(15U) to top the Senior class at Pennsylvania's Pine Grove Short Track.
