One o f th e serio us contenders for the lead went down as th e other rider s managed to avo id him - J. T . Terry's Yama ha FZR600 was undamaged, but a wob bl y ank le made it dear he wo uld be un ab le to co rnin ue. Ro tax ri der Mark Key stayed just ahead 01 H on da rider , Bobby McDowell in the fourth spot wh ile Bobb y stayed in lil th. In th e O pe n Ex pert class, Da mron gra bbed the ea rly lead with Bobb y McDowel l a close seco nd a nd br o ther Bryan ri der on his back wheel.
