David Pingree (23), the only SOcc Expert class entrant, flies by SOcc Novice runnerup John Leddy on his way to first overall. Greg Yearsley topped the Novice class. Morga joined approximately 140 other entrants eager to battle o n the same track that the factory stars ha d competed on the previous ni ght. G F! S 40 Racing o rga nized the event and treated the riders to a safe bu t fun course, and riders were gr anted their wish for lon ger motos du e to the low turnout. Mor ga o ut-ga ted all the o ther 125cc Int erm ediates in the first moto, with Dustin Mon ger and Billy Felts in tow. Mor ga rode as if the trac k was flat and p ilo ted ' hi s Yam aha Corp .lScott / Tsuba ki YZI25 out to a comfortable lead. Meanwh ile, Felts bounced past Monger in the wh oops to tak e o ver secon d. Anth o n y Amarad io and J erem y Albrech t waged a private battle that carr ied them into th ird and fourth by the rnoto 's end. Morga too k an easy win over Felts and Amarad io. Amaradio pulled ou t the SlOpS in the second moto and peeled out of the ga te ahead of Morga , Felts and Monger. Although Mor ga pu shed Amaradio in the early stages of the moto, Ama radio _ set a blazin g pace th at carr ied h im to a comma nding lead. Morga seemed conte nt in th e runner-up pos ition, kn ow in g that he had the overall win. Felts and Monger excha ng ed positions a few ti mes, but it was Felts wh o prevail ed. Amaradio took th e moto win over Mor ga , Felts, and Monger. Morga p icked up wh ere he left off o n th e 125 and hol esho t the first 250cc Interm ediate mo to. Close beh ind were Sco tt Sease and Bob J ohnson, but Mor ga 's pace was too mu ch for th em to match. Gregg Cox emerged from midpack to move into third, with a hardcharging Tony Seckman on his tail. Cox began to pressure Sease, but the Kawasaki rider held on until the finish. Morga seemed unbeat abl e as he holeshot the second moto an d stea mrolled to th e mo to and overa ll victori es wi th relative ease. Shadowing Morga at th e sta rt were Sease and Cox, who engaged in a heat ed battle that would carry them way ahead of fourth p lace. Cox cu t under Sease in a banked turn and took over second p lace, bu t o n lap six th e two riders tang led in a tigh t turn an d went down. Both riders scra mbled to rem ount, but Seckma n and Todd Cunningh am managed to scoo t by. Morga took th e mo to over Seckma n , Cun ni ng ha m and Sease. Brian Call ripped ou t of the ga te in th e first 125cc No vice moto, but ho t o n his tai l were Grant Gaspar and Ti m Staufenbeil. Stuck back in the pack was Nick Morgan, bu t the O ran ge County Cycle ri der rode like he was possessed and wor ked in to the top four by lap five of the 10-lap rn o to . Ca ll continued to pull away from the pack, bu t all eyes were o n Morgan, wh o swoo ped past the two riders ahea d of h im and into the runner-up spot. Time ran ou t thoug h and Mor gan took a second beh ind Ca ll. Also o n the move wa s Dennis Dahl in , wh o work ed into third a t the finish after a sixth-place start. Mor gan tim ed the ga te perfectl y in moto two , but was pushed heavily by Call. Morgan held his lin es, and Call lost con tro l in a whoop section and dropped to fourth. Dahlin and Staufenbeil took advantage of Call's mistak e, and moved into second and third. Ca ll recovered to cross the finish line in fifth behind Gra nt Gas pa r. J ohn Leddy smoked off the lin e in the firs t 80cc Novice moto leading Greg Yearsley and Ben Pain ter o nto the trac k. Leddy rode like a madman and pulled out to a comfo rta ble lead, . whil e Yea rsley had a harder time workin g through the lapped riders. Leddy took the mot o ahead of Yearsley, T ravis Pr eston a nd Painter. Painter bu zzed o ut of the gate in th e second moto , bu t close beh ind were Yearsley and Leddy. Yearsley was ted no ti me and q uickly assumed the lead. Not to be o utdo ne, Leddy pus hed his way into second, but couldn 't reel in Yearsley. Yearsley smoked to the mo to a n d overa ll wi n o ver Ledd y a n d Pr eston . Scot t Bell led the Vet Interm ediates onto the track in the first rnoto, but right on h is tail were Steve Donovan and Randy Skinner. Bell looked co mfortable on the wh oop-filled course and began to pull away from the pa ck. Meanwhile Skinne r looked for a way around Donovan, and found his way pa st in a slippery corn er. Skinner closed on Bell , but cou ldn 't find his wa y pa st. Bell took the .moto over Skinner and a close Donovan. Donovan roared back in moto two and took th e early lead over Bell and Skinner. Bell tried to find a way around Donovan, but had hi s hands full with Skinner, wh o was cha rg ing hard. Donovan rode steadily and took the win over Bell and Skinner.
