Swink dominated the I25cc qual ifier an d main but had already won the 250cc class title before the fina l ro und. The Team G reen Kawa sak i ri der , who is coming back aft er a two -year la yoff du e to a broken leg, said, " My leg feels stro ng aga in, but I didn 't want to p ush m y lu ck by riding both classes today." Mathew Crown topped the 250cc Expert main event thriller. C ycl e Marin e Center/Hondasu p ported Todd Gardner scored th e o nly double class win at Da ytona, earning 250 a nd 500cc B class wins en ro u te to both championships. Ap pro xima tely 450 riders opened the dirt racing portion of Da ytona Speed week '90 on a Gary Ba il eydesigned su perc ross track. Bailey's supercross circuits are known for their tortuou s gatorbacks and whoops and clever j ump combinations. The Professor did not di sappoint ri ders with h is latest cr eation . Gardner commented, " The track here today is very demanding. It requires constant concen tra tion and there isn't any place to let off and catch yo ur breath." T riple Crown boss J erry West said, " This is a great rider field considering Daytona's minimum 16-year-old age rule. We awarded Mini and Youth class awards at the end of our second round at Gatorback. .. B Todd Gardner (371) was the only double-class winner with wins in the 250 and 500cc B classes. Gardner also clinched Triple Crown titles in both classes . Kawasaki's off-road ace Larry Roeseler (11) had some fun and tuned up for the Alligator Enduro by topping the second division of the Plus 30 class. 40 The 125cc Expert final rocketed off the gate led by Gary Paul with David G a ylord, Swink , Mathew Crown, Chad Lough and T y Wallace in the h unt. Paul' s WKRITX 10 Clothingbacked H onda o wned the first two laps until Swink danced by for the win on lap three. Paul guarded second against Crown and Dan Jannette. Swink explained, " This Kawasaki is box stock. My dad set up the damping and it works great." . The 250cc Expert final saw Kevin Fo ley, Ty Wa llace, Paul, Mathew Crown and Aaron Becker on the gas through the first turn. Crown said, "I got a midpack start, but sneaked by a bunch of guys in the first whoops." Foley , who owned lap one, elaborated, " I was riding too hard to last, Those guys were pushing me and I got out of shape in the rockers." Paul took the lead briefly, but bailed hard on a double and Wallace took the point. Crown's Tri Tech Racing/Pro Stock Suspension-equipped Suzuki dogged Wallace before finally moving by on the final lap for the win. Crown said, "Wallace was faster in the whoops, but I finall y slipped by inside him on a do uble." Billy Silverole came back from midpack to close on the leaders at the end and finished third. Silverole said, " I' m glad the y gave us 10 laps." All Senior class finals featured intense racing. In the Plus 25 start Joe Rogers led Mike Ro th and Kevin Foley, but Roth's Down Under Activewear
